102 Thanksgiving Celebrations This Thanksgiving one of Fleming Elderly Care Home's residents will be celebrating her one hundred and second Thanksgiving feast. Yep, this senior citizen is 102 years old. Our oldest resident to date was 108 years old. I sometimes marvel at how much these residents have seen and how much they have experienced the changing times. At the time of these residents birth, the invention of the radio was big news and would not be a household item for ma...ny years to come. The site of a television in a home would not be common until 30 years later. Walking or using a horse for transportation was more common than a car. During this week, as my family and I reflect on previous Thanksgivings and the things that we are thankful for, I can hardly fathom the many reflections some of our residents my have. Remembering spending Thanksgiving with a father or a mother who they had a special relationship with or brother who passed on long ago may be on their mind. Being thankful for the grandson who keeps visiting and bringing the great grandchildren with him. I know these visits are especially cherished. My wife, who runs our small assisted living for the elderly, has a unique connection with our residents. I know she enjoys being with them at this time of year and being a part of of these residents many Thanksgiving memories. 8 Year Old Helps Dad A few weeks ago I had to give a speech to approximately 60 people. I decided to allow my 8 year old daughter Jordan to miss the first few hours of school and attend this presentation. Moreover, I decided I would allow her to introduce me to the audience. My kids sometime ask me what I do for work. So I figured it would be good for her to see what I do first hand. After Jordan bravely introduced me, she sat down and attentively listened to what I had to... present. A friend took the displayed picture of me speaking. Jordan is on the right soaking it all in. It was great to have Jordan join me. She provided moral support and was good company. At Fleming Elderly Care Home, we are about to admit an elderly resident which will make our Carlsbad elderly assisted home 100% full. The family members of our new resident were careful to help their mom evaluate our home, interview our staff and ensure their mother felt comfortable with the move. Just as my 8 year old daughter supported me during my presentation it was great to see these family members help their mom with her transition. I can't help but think that just as I nurture and father Jordan and my other two children so too will they help me when I am advanced in years. Thanks for your help Jordan!

Friends Of The Elderly When we think of helping a friend in need, we often think of accomplishing some task on their behalf. We may think of running to the grocery store for this person, helping with the laundry or some other household chore. Although these things maybe helpful, sometimes the friend simply needs us to be with them. Sometimes what they really need is your time. At Fleming Elderly Care HomeCarlsbad, often the most valuable form of serving the residents is to simply spend time with them. The following picture was snapped of Nicole working on a puzzle with one of the residents. Perhaps this is the most authentic form of friendship.
