Happy Earth Day! Cheers to living LEAN + GREEN! Like your body, we only get one! No matter how much money you spend you cannot buy a new one. HOW ARE YOU HELPING OUR AMAZING PLANET? ... 1 Recycling waste. 2 Donating used clothing/toys/items to shelters or charity orgs + linens to pet shelters. If it’s still in usable condition, let’s get it to someone/thing who can really use it! 3 Drinking filtered water + using a refillable water bottle instead of single-use plastic bottles. @drinkbritawater 4 Using biodegradable dog poop bags. @earthrated 5 Walking or Biking instead of driving car for short trips. (This really adds up + is terrific cardio!) 6 Minimize use of AC or Heat when no one is home or when temperature is tolerable. Open windows or use ceiling fan to circulate air. Try a space heater for cool nights. 7 Replace standard with LED light bulbs. They’ll last up to 80% longer, so worth the $ too! 8 Line dry clothes VS throwing in dryer. Your gym clothes will thank you! Leggings, sports bras, etc containing Lycra/spandex/stretchy fibers break down + stretch out in high heat. 9 Bringing reusable bags from home when you go shopping. EVERYWHERE, not just the grocery store! Plant trees if you have a yard. If not, you too can bring the outdoors in with houseplants, which all produce that delicious oxygen we so much! ... Re: Pursuit of Your Health Goals: There’s no magic pill, potion, detox, supplement or combination of such that will substitute for workouts + nutrition. Sure, some can aid your healthy pursuits + others are pure BS. Trust your gut + do your research. If the product claims sound too good to be true, it almost assuredly is! EOD, you, your efforts + a realistic progressive program are the essential elements to reaching your goals. No one 15lbs from IDEAL WEIGHT should expect to ...lose that amount or even half of it on a 2week cleanse, detox or even a combination diet + workout shred program. And if you do, you will be unable to maintain weight loss + will likely gain back every pound, plus more due to metabolic damage. As we get closer to our ideal weight, yes, EXPECT to lose weight even more slowly in order to maintain that loss. Our metabolism decreases: 1 As our weight decreases, which is why we educators always encourage building metabolism boosting muscle 1st to offset metabolic decline. 2 The longer + more calorie restrictively we diet. Our body is built for survival, not aesthetics. This is your body’s natural defense system. The more we decrease daily calories below TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure), the more our bodies decrease metabolism + store fat (in preparation to live off). Extreme calorie restrictive diets thrash our body’s trust that regular healthy meals will continue, signaling our prehistoric programming: FAMINE IS COMING. Easy Breakfast Bowl Whipped this up in 10 min for the parents. Hits all the desired taste bells: salty, sweet, spicy...May even be dinging a tiny umami bell with my unique sweet potato seasoning. So easy! Do it! Report back with satisfied tummy! 2 small zucchinis, spiraled 1 medium purple sweet potato, cubed... 1/4 red onion, diced 1/2 yellow , diced 2oz of your choice, diced 1/2oz crumbled sheep milk feta ** 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper 1/2 tsp cumin 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp coriander 1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil 2 eggs 8 egg whites Serves 2. Quick Steam Microwave Hack! Place cubed sweet potato in bowl with plate on top in microwave. Heat for 3 min on high. Carefully remove from microwave, turn plate away from you to lift (steam burns suck!) + check tenderness. If not soft, reheat for 30sec. Add seasoning + stir to combine. Place nonstick pan on burner + raise to medium high heat. Add 1/4 tsp toasted sesame oil. Add potatos. Stir every 2 min until lightly browned + crisped around edges. While cooking potatoes, place small saucepan on another burner over medium heat. Add onion, pepper + tomatoes. While they cook. Place spiralized zucchini in bowl with plate on top in microwave. Sure, use potato’s bowl, they won’t mind sharing, it’s going to same place! Heat for 2 min on high, or longer to achieve desired tenderness. Set aside til ready to plate. Again, carefully remove from microwave + this time tilt over sink to drain excess water before carefully removing plate. By now, potatoes are prob done, so put them on aside + reuse pan. Over medium heat add 1/4 tsp toasted sesame oil. Quickly beat eggs + egg whites together + pour into pan. Scramble with silicone spatula (no metal, protect those pans!) to desired doneness. Divide zucchini between two bowls. Add tomato/pepper confit, eggs, potatoes + top with sprinkle of feta. DEVOUR! Guess which parent enjoyed their #breakfastbowl more? * Love Pastures of Eden Sheep Milk Feta! Sold @traderjoes or brand Tnuva @costco.
