One week ago we spent the last few minutes of class writing down things that brought us JOY last year. Some mamas were in a forearm plank writing their joys down. This mama got to wall sit with her sleeping babe (talk about a joy!). At the end we encouraged them to post it up somewhere they could see often. While there is so much going on in this world, we hope you find ways to see and feel the joy around you. If you need help we are always here.

As we move into the last week of October and the last few days of #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, we wanted to share a couple personal stories from our own members and how breast cancer has affected their lives. The first story comes from our mama friend, Lindsey, pictured here with her mom! My mom had breast cancer back in 1999, I was a freshman in high school. It was scary, no one I knew had dealt with this yet, so it was hard.... She had a mastectomy, radiation and chemo, loss of all her beautiful red hair, the whole nine yards... but my mom is fighter and had a lot other women behind her letting her know she was not alone. She got through it, we all did. Now, I’m actually going for my very first mammogram on Monday, trying to stay on top of this breast cancer business! I’m scared, but happy to know that the odds are in my favor if caught as early as possible. Check your boobs ladies! It’s very important.

We’re promoting Breast Cancer Awareness this month! Join us in wearing PINK to class tomorrow, 10/21, and Thursday, 10/22, as we honor our breast cancer warrior mamas and highlight the importance of regular checks. Read below for some powerful stats! Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women IN THE WORLD. (World Health Organization)... In the U.S., breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer in women behind skin cancer. (National Cancer Institute) About 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in their lifetime. (American Cancer Society) 40% of diagnoses breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump. (Johns Hopkins Medical Center) Female breast cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States (NCI) Approximately 12,000 women age 40 or younger are diagnosed with cancer every year When breast cancer is detected early, in the localized stage, the 5 year survival rate is 98% Statistics indicate that tumors diagnosed in younger women may be more aggressive and less responsive to treatment, making early detection KEY (Keep A Breast Foundation) White women have the highest incidence rate for breast cancer out of all female demographics (about 125 women out of every 100,000), yet Black women are roughly 40% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women. To learn how to give yourself a self-exam (and even set a monthly reminder!), download the Keep A Breast app at www.keep-a-breast.org/keep-a-breast-app : @keepabreast
