Fish On Sports

The river is different every day, that’s why Hat Creek is such a difficult and technical creek to fish! Morning was sunny and little dry fly activity. Couple of the guys got a nice fish on nymph and streamers. I managed just a few tiny fish all on dry fly, very challenging ... Finally around 2pm, I got a couple of nice rainbows 12 and 14in on my special. soft hackle, made my day! Got a few other decent fish, it was definitely a challenging day! Fished Hat Creek in the afternoon today, it was 80F but luckily there was a little cloud cover. No hatch, probably too warm? Hat Creek was beautiful with lots of bushes in bloom ! ... I missed quite a few fish, some large ones too. This was a once in a lifetime magical afternoon of steelhead fishing on the Klamath River, CA. The perfect maximum temperature in the afternoon and steelhead were taking Donna O'Sullivan's fly on the swing one after another! Landed 2 out of 5 in less than one hour and about 10 casts, can't get better than that, walking and wading! Donna O'Sullivan used her LTS Explosive Lt 6/7wt 12ft6 spey rod, with LTS SCSS 6/7wt Float-Hover-Intermediate head and S3 sink tip. This setup was perfect for the low water condition on the Klamath River, and found those steelhead, they loved the classic fly that Donna's friend Ken tied! This magical afternoon will forever be remembered and unlikely to be repeated!

A super fun day swinging flies on the Klamath River, finishing with a nice 18in steelhead! Donna O'Sullivan used her LTS Explosive Lt 6/7wt 12ft6 spey rod, with LTS SCSS 6/7wt Float-Hover-Intermediate head and S3 sink tip. This setup was perfect for the low water condition on the Klamath River, and found those steelhead.

It was a cold afternoon on the Upper Sacramento River, but some trout were sipping in Baetis! Got a big one that snapped off on the take, and landed this 12in rainbow. Got another one as my fly dangled in the water as I was releasing the fish, amazing and fun afternoon.

Donna O’Sullivan fished at Baum Lake last Sunday, fishing a lift hatch of baetis and various other flies. It took a while to find the right fly the trout wanted!
