First Sunday Vocal Showcase

The First Sunday Vocal Showcase returns to action on Sunday, October 4 at 5 PM at the Pittsburg Yacht Club. Headlining the show is the wonderful song stylist Frankye Kelly. We are joined also by saxophonist/singer Kristen Strom, fresh off her triumphant show at the Monterey Jazz Festival! We have marvelous Mark Lee on drums, Kelly Park on piano, Stephen Saxon on trumpet and vocals, Linda Livingston on percussion, and I am holding down the bass. It's going to be a ball, that's all! We are back in action for First Sunday at 5:00 PM on June 7 at the Pittsburg Yacht Club. This will be the second of only four shows this year and it promises to be a barn-burner! Our headliner artist is the remarkable Terrie Odabi, bringing her intoxicatingly powerful brew of blues, soul, and jazz. Terrie tore it up here a few years back and I have been following her career with great interest. She gigs constantly in the Bay Area and around the country with her fine quartet a...nd I couldn't be happier to have her with us. Marsh Brodeur is a singer/composer/sound engineer/educator/polymath whom I finally got a chance to hear and immediately invited to join us as a cameo artist. December 7 line-up includes local favorite, Jesse DeTorres, and Austin Scott returning in a cameo role. Last month's featured artist, Joyce Grant, said she'd be dropping by again, too. We'll all be glad to welcome back Bobbie Hill, so soon after the loss of Walt, who started all of this rolling so many years ago. As always, the band will be swingin' with Kelly Park (pno), Fritz Burden (bass), Ranzell Merritt (dms), Linda Livingston (perc), and Stephen Saxon (tpt / voc), with the wonderful Jack Pollard running the show and throwing down some great soul / jazz vocals. Pack the place with love for Bobbie, and catch some great music while you're at it.
