Halloween is here. It's time for our kids to put on their favorite costume, go out Trick or Treating and get more treats then they probably need. Here are few healthy tips to keep your kids teeth clean: 1) Moderation. Eating candy/treats is inevitable and that is ok. Just try and limit their daily intake, restricting the number of candies they can eat. 2) After Meals. Try and give them their treats with meals or shortly after. Saliva production increases at meal times and thi...s will help wash away any sugars. 3) Soft/Non-sticky candies are better. Soft candies, like chocolate, easily wash away from your teeth. On the other hand, sticky candies like taffy or gummy bears tend to stick in the grooves longer, increasing the risk of tooth decay. 4) Brush and Floss. Make sure your kids do not get lazy about brushing and flossing. It is recommended they brush twice a day (in the morning and before bed) and floss once a day at night. 5) If your child has any discomfort or sensitivity when eating something sweet it is possible they may have a cavity. It would be a good idea to bring them in to their Dentist for a check. Have a safe and fun Halloween!
