Fire extinguishers are to be inspected at least once a month, with maintenance procedures performed annually, in accordance with the California Code of Regulations Title 19. #FireExtinguishers are also required to be re-charged once they have been used. Backflow prevention devices keep your water clean and potable by keeping pollutants from contaminating your water supply via a backflow condition, which is when contaminants or pollutants run in the opposite direction, back into the main water supply. When that happens, you can be exposed to contaminants that can make you moderately to severely ill. Fire Safety First tests all serviceable backflow prevention devices, from irrigation to main fire lines. If you have received a... notice from your local water provider call us. With highly trained testers, FSF is an expert when it comes to #BackflowPrevention. Call us today to schedule a service (714) 836-4800 Learn more by visiting www.firesafetyfirst.com

Here is an example of an underground leak. Most of the time identifying the location of an underground fire line leak is straightforward, there is water coming up from the ground. In few cases you can have intermittent leaking and will need to determine whether the leak is coming from the fire line or some other source. In our experience when we encounter a leak that is intermittent the irrigation system is usually the culprit, not the #FireProtectionSystem. Often there is a ...broken irrigation pipe. The first course of action we take is to have our client shut off the irrigation system and observe the effect that has on the leak. This simple step has the potential to save our clients a significant amount of money. #FireSafetyFirst #FireLifeSafety #FireSafety #FireProtection #SafetyFirst #SoCal #OC #OrangeCounty #LA #LACounty #LosAngelesCounty

The fire code is very thorough in requirements for both inspections and testing. #ControlValve on fire systems should be indicating, which means that you should be able to see whether they are OPEN or SHUT by visually inspecting them. Additionally, there are performance testing requirements, whereby you can determine whether the valve is actually OPEN or SHUT. Here, the stem of the valve is up, which visually indicates that the valve should be OPEN, but the flow test proved that the valve was broken in the SHUT position. This two-pronged approach to inspection and testing revealed an impaired #FireSystem that was corrected immediately by replacing the broken #ControlValve. #FireSafetyFirst #FireLifeSafety #FireSafety #FireProtection #SafetyFirst #SoCal #OC #OrangeCounty #LA #LACounty #LosAngelesCounty

It never ceases to amaze me how many serious issues we find by simply inspecting fire protection systems. For sure, there are only deficiencies that can be found by performing a test of a #FireProtectionSystem, but many serious deficiencies can be found just by looking at the components of a system. A visual inspection could reveal closed or broken valves, vandalism, birds’ nests that obstruct the fire department connection, disconnected piping and the list goes on and on. P...erformance testing costs considerably more than a visual inspection, which is why code requirements uses a two-pronged approach of both visual inspections AND performance testing to keep the maintenance costs down for an operable fire protection system. When this two-pronged approach is followed, it will keep a fire protection system ready for a fire emergency. #FireSafetyFirst #FireLifeSafety #FireSafety #FireProtection #SafetyFirst #SoCal #OC #OrangeCounty #LA #LACounty #LosAngelesCounty

Can you tell which is the #SmokeDetector or the #HeatDetector? When testing these out in the field it is important to distinguish the correct device. Smoke detectors are typically tested by spraying smoke from a can onto the device and heat detectors by using a heat test which can be done via a heat gun or even a blow dryer. If the device is misidentified and tested incorrectly, the device will not activate since it is not sensing the particles that it is made to detect. You would be surprised how many people try to test a heat detector using a smoke can! P.S. The left photo is the heat detector and the right photo is the smoke detector! #FireSafetyFirst #FireLifeSafety #FireSafety #FireProtection #SafetyFirst #SoCal #OC #OrangeCounty #LA #LACounty #LosAngelesCounty
