A seasonal offering from FBCU! Happy Holidays!

Recently a FBCU member made an ATM deposit at our machine. He came in the next day to ask if we could make about $1,350.00 of the deposit available to him. The check, which was drawn from another credit union, was for payment on a motorcycle our member had sold online. The out of state buyer stated that she had accidently sent him the money for shipping and handling. The buyer wanted our member to return the surplus funds ASAP in order to secure the sale of his bike. Wanting ...to help the member, a staff member contacted the other credit union to verify that the check was still good. After a brief conversation, it was discovered that the check was fraudulent. This is a common scam and takes slightly different forms. If you ever receive a check from someone you don't personally know and they want you to send a portion back to them immediately - REFUSE! Contact the institution on the check to verify that the check is valid and then wait for it to clear. Once you send them the money, any loss is your responsibility! Fortunately, we were able to reverse the deposit and our member did not lose any money. See more

As credit union members start receiving their new EMV chipped VISA Debit cards, some members will experience problems using their new cards at EMV-enabled ATMs other credit unions. These machines are programmed to recognize the EMV card and process the transaction using the extra layer of security that comes with EMV. The problem occurs when the ATM attempts to use the CO-OP Network to access your account. The Network cannot recognize the EMV chip and will cancel the transaction right before it is to be completed. The CO-OP Network is working on the problem and an anticipated fix date is Aug. 14, 2016. We recommend that members with EMV cards not use EMV-enabled ATM machines until the Network corrects the error. All member cards will work at FBCU's EMV-enabled ATM machine.

EMV card acceptance - most merchants do not currently process through EMV. There are also some merchants that have EMV, but their systems are still experiencing problems. When you go to a merchant ask if their readers accept EMV and proceed accordingly. If their machine does not acknowledge or cannot process your EMV card, just swipe the card instead.

The credit union will be going live with the issuance of EMV cards as of Monday, May 16! Members getting new or replacement cards as of that date will be receiving an EMV card. Members with existing cards will receive their new EMV cards over the course of the next 12 months. The re-issue is based upon the month, not the year, of your expiraton date - for example, members whose cards expire on July 31 (regardless of year) will received their new EMV cards by mid-July. This process will continue until all cards are reissued by June 2017.
