On Saturday March 30th, a group of Fillmore Firefighters completed a 3 day certification in Low Angle Rope Rescue Operations, or LARRO. This course focuses on rope rescue techniques for victims in areas not accessible by vehicle such as steep hillsides, drainages and other areas. we would like to thank the instructional staff from Oxnard Fire Department for taking the time to bring us this excellent education and training.
On Friday, March 29th Fillmore Firefighters stopped by for a visit to Mountain Vista Elementary School for a few hours of Fire Safety education. Captain Al Huerta and crew reviewed STOP DROP & ROLL and what children should do when there is a fire in the home. Afterwards the students had the opportunity to to explore the fire engine and spray water on a simulated fire.
ARREST MADE IN RECENT STRING OF SUSPECTED ARSON FIRES If you have any pertinent information about any of the recent fires please contact the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office (contact info on page two) The Investigation is ongoing and The Fillmore Fire Department is unable to release any further information at this time.

CITIZEN ADVISORY NOTICE (updated 10:30am 2/02) Heavy rains are again affecting the Fillmore area and Ventura County. HIGH WINDS ARE EXPECTED LATER TODAY. Would like to advise all citizens to prepare for this event. If your property has a history of accumulating standing water or flooding, please be ready in advance of the rainfall by digging drainages or barricading with sandbags. Check your vehicles to ensure your windshield wipers and all lights are working properly, as ...well as having adequate tread depth on your tires. Please drive cautiously, especially through standing water to avoid hydroplaning. STAY WELL AWAY FROM DOWN POWER LINES AND CALL 911 if you see them. We would also again like to remind all citizens to stay well clear of all waterways adjacent the town. Water levels can rise quickly and without warning. The fast moving water may undermine seemingly stable adjacent shorelines and can sweep away anyone caught in it’s current. Stay Back, and Stay Safe.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to the recent weather, Sespe Creek, Pole Creek and the Santa Clara River have unusually high, fast moving volumes of water and debris. The areas around these waters should be considered extremely dangerous and we advise you to keep away from their banks. Water conditions can change and or rise rapidly. The rapid movement of water also may cause the banks to become slippery and unstable. It may be tempting to go down to our waterways to look, but remember, Stay Back and Stay Safe!
Wednesday, December 5th between 4:15 and 4:30 AM Fillmore Fire Department responded to a series of small trash fires in the area of Central Avenue. The fires were quickly knocked down and the cause of the fires is under investigation.
At approximately 1230 on 12/04/2018 Fillmore Firefighters responded to a dog on a roof in the 1000 blk of Howard Street. Upon arrival firefighters found a German Shepard on the roof of a single story single family dwelling in mild distress. The dog was placed in a harness and lowered down to safety, where it was reunited with its owner. How the dog came to be on the roof is not known at this time.
HOLIDAY SAFETY As Christmas rapidly approaches, many people choose to bring a Fresh cut natural Christmas tree into their home. There are many advantages to a real tree, such as the fresh smell and beautiful look, but it can increase the fire danger in your home. Keep the tree well watered, thoroughly inspect any lights you place on the tree for damaged cords and consider switching to LED which emit less heat. If you are still using glass bulb light strings with a scre...w in type base it is time to upgrade. Watch this video to see how quickly dry tree can burn. Test your smoke detectors, water your trees and have a safe and happy holiday season!
A MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF!

On Monday Aug 13th Fillmore High School was the location for a mass casualty and active shooter training session. During the training Fillmore Fire Department, faculty, students and Sherrifs Deputies acted out situations and responses for different sceneros with realistic sights and sounds. This was frightening and stressful in a controlled situation to help build team work and response tactics to strengthen their response to any tragic incident within our city. Special thanks to the Fillmore Unified School District, Fillmore Sheriffs Department, and Sheriff Cadets.
