In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) in May, and in light of the recent attacks on our community, we would like to invite you to a Community Healing Circle on Sunday, May 2nd at 12pm! The event will be held outdoors at Veterans Park: 22400 Moneta Ave, Carson 90745. While there have been different gatherings held throughout Carson and the South Bay area, there haven’t been many where community members are given the chance to speak and share how they ...are feeling about the issue. We want to provide a safe, family-friendly space for Carson residents, Asian-American Pacific Islanders (AAPI), allies, and people from the community to come together. Just because the attacks on our AAPI community may not be receiving as much news coverage lately, our community is still greatly concerned. Join us to meet your neighbors, learn about different ways we can come together to build a stronger AAPI community, and work toward addressing the root issues of these hate crimes. Click the link in bio to RSVP! This event is sponsored by: @nafconsocal @filipinoyouthinaction and @filipinomigrantcenter

#Repost @lbirc562 We must remember that the Biden administration and those who have preceded them have failed to address the root causes of children arriving unaccompanied. Among these causes is the Biden administration’s continued implementation of the Trump-era Title 42 policy, which allows border officials to immediately expel migrant families and adults without any chance to seek asylum or other relief. This is a continuation of imperialist policies that drive people away from their country of origin and treat them inhumanly once they arrive. Continuing to expel adults and families while accepting unaccompanied minors forces many migrant families to make an impossible decision when seeking safety in the United States. #lbirc #Longbeach #CommunityNotCages #not1more #AbolishICE

The Filipino Migrant Center is saddened to hear of the recent passing of Tita Dela Cruz, one of our long time Walking Club members (pictured on the far left). We would like to send our deepest condolences to the Dela Cruz family, especially to her husband Ed and their children. Tita was a loving wife, mother, and a kind friend to all who knew her. Tita enjoyed walking with her friends every week, sharing stories about her family, and always greeted everyone with a wave and a smile. . Tita is pictured here with other Walking Club members, proudly displaying vegetables grown in their backyards. Tita will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the West Long Beach community!

#Repost @nafconusa The National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) calls on community support and coordination of emergency relief efforts for those impacted by Super Typhoon Goni (Rolly), and Typhoon Ulysses (Vamco). . The effects of climate change have seen ever more extreme and frequent natural disasters, affecting the Philippines and the most vulnerable populations in particular. The gravity of the current situation in the Philippines is further compounded... by the pandemic threat. Reports from our Philippine partner organization on the ground, Citizens' Disaster Response Center (CDRC), mention 346,993 people have been displaced in the wake of Super Typhoon Goni. In addition, 352,509 people were evacuated from their homes in response to Typhoon Ulysses. This raises concerns about the spread of coronavirus in evacuation centers as most of the country remains under lockdown. . Once again, NAFCON appeals to communities in the U.S and worldwide to support those affected by this recent devastation in the Philippines. Amidst the ongoing pandemic and effects of Super Typhoon Goni and Typhoon Ulysses, we must take action to support our fellow kababayans affected during this time. As in past disaster relief efforts, notably after Typhoon Haiyan, NAFCON will be coordinating with community-based, people-to-people grassroots responses to ensure that donations will reach survivors timely and efficiently. With the holidays also fast approaching, let us especially highlight this season of giving. . #MagkaisaAtKumilos! #Bayanihan2020 #ReliefPH . As the United States waits for the results of the national elections, Filipinos in America and around the world are paying attention to how U.S. foreign policy affects human rights in the Philippines and countries around the world. How does the Philippine Anti-Terrorism Law affect the human rights and civil rights of Filipinos? How are human rights abuses in the Philippines connected to U.S. military aid/U.S. tax dollars? No matter the results of the elections, we will continue to organize our communities because the power is in the people! Let’s continue to hold our elected officials accountable to ensure our tax dollars are spent on pro-people programs & services instead of being spent on oppressing people in other countries!

What is the Philippine Human Rights Act (HR 8313)? The Philippine Human Rights Act (HR 8313) will stop U.S. military funding to the Philippine government until the Philippine police and military stop committing human rights violations and those responsible are brought to justice. Since 2016, Philippine police and military have been implicated in gross human rights violations against the Filipino people. The Philippines has been deemed one of the deadliest countries in the wo...rld for land defenders, journalists, faith leaders, and unionists. According to human rights groups, extrajudicial killings by the Philippine government under President Rodrigo Duterte have risen to over 30,000 killed. The Philippine security forces are heavily funded by U.S. military funding/U.S. tax dollars. We want to show our U.S. Congress Members that their constituents care about human rights and don’t want our taxpayer money used for human rights violations in the Philippines. Please help us by contacting/emailing your local U.S. Congress Member and asking them to endorse the Philippine Human Rights Act: Congressmember Juan Vargas 51st District in San Diego/Imperial Valley (619) 422-5963 Congressmember Karen Bass 37th District in South Los Angeles (323) 965-1422 Congressmember Brad Sherman 31st District in San Fernando Valley (818) 501-9200 Congressmember Nanette Barragan 44th District in Carson, San Pedro, South Gate (310) 831-1799 Congressmember Ted Lieu 33rd District in Torrance, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach. On October 20th, we stood outside Carson City Hall in solidarity with the senior citizen residents of the Imperial Avalon mobile home park. The people living in the 220+ mobile homes are being pushed out by the same developer building the Union South Bay development just a few blocks away (seen in the background of some of these photos). . In last week’s virtual State of the City address by Carson Mayor Albert Robles, a majority of the presentation was spent highlighting all ...the new housing developments that have been and will be built, along with the new businesses, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities. The housing crisis continues to intensify just like with other cities as local governments continue to place profit over people and making it unaffordable for long-time residents. . #HousingIsAHumanRight #gentrification #urbandevelopment #housingcrisis #affordablehousing #rentcontrol #peopleoverprofit #carson #CityofCarson #fmc10years See more

California Domestic workers and Nannies hold a die-in in front of the Ronald Reagan State of California building in Los Angeles. @cadomesticworkers protesting Governor @gavinnewsom for vetoing #sb1257 a bill that takes away the exclusion of domestic workers, nannies, and caregivers from basic health and safety protections that all workers have. This is deeply disappointing, but CA domestic workers will continue the fight to defend and protect all workers! #sb1257myhealthmysafety #sb1257

The @cadomesticworkers and all California Domestic Workers, Nannies, and caregivers want health and safety protections for all! We need to repeal the exclusion of CA Domestic Workers from these basic protections. Filipino Migrant Center 27.06.2020

Over 300,000 CA Domestic Workers, caregivers, and nannies are left unprotected by the State of California and do not have basic occupational health and safety protection. They fear for their own health due to the wildfires, Covid 19, and other workplace hazards. @gavinnewsom why would the Governor continue their exclusion from their basic rights?

Filipino Migrant Center 16.06.2020

FMC joins the @cadomesticworkers to protest Governor Gavin Newsoms’s vetoing of SB1257 a California State bill that would finally allow for health and safety protections for CA domestic workers, nannies, and caregivers. #sb1257myhealthmysafety #sb1257 @gavinnewsom

Filipino Migrant Center 13.06.2020

Repost @cadomesticworkers It is with deep disappointment and sadness regarding Governor Newsom’s decision to veto SB1257, that we reach out to you with so much love and care. We know the exclusion of domestic workers from health and safety protections will continue to negatively impact the lives of domestic workers, in the worsening wildfire seasons and the ongoing global health pandemic. While this is not the outcome that we had fought hard and hoped for, we have... so much to be proud of in our journey to truly achieve dignity and respect for domestic workers. For those comfortable with participating in an in-person mobilization, we will express our disappointment in public protest in front of the California State Buildings in Los Angeles and San Francisco THIS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1st for a short program and die-in demonstration. We will show our growing strength, denounce Governor Newsom’s decision to veto SB1257 and show them that we will keep fighting! #sb1257 See more
