Virtual Concert Announcement Sunday, September 13 Hello Fifth Street audience. It's been a while since you've heard from us. We hope you're all doing well, or as well as can be expected in these difficult times. As you know, this is a particularly difficult time for performers, losing their ability to perform live. A wonderful local violinist, Gail Hernandez Rosa, whom we were planning to host at Fifth Street in September, is going to be holding a virtual concert accompanied... by her husband, bassist Daniel Turkos. The concert will take place live, via Zoom, on Sunday, September 13th at 4pm. They'll be performing a variety of baroque and folk music tunes and the concert will act as a fundraiser for an album they're working on together. It's sure to be a great show. If you're interested in participating, all of the details are at this link: My Cup of Tea album fundraiser: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/my-cup-of-tea-concert-tickets- Reservations, payment and access to the Zoom link will all be handled from the link above. We hope to see you there! In the meantime, best wishes to all of you until we can meet again in person.

Undone in Sorrow Saturday, February 1 http://undoneinsorrow.com/ Spare, heartfelt, genuine, moving: Undone In Sorrow plays old-time music as if they’re sitting on the porch in West Virginia. I saw them at the Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention and among all the bands there, they really captured my attention. Here’s a link to some of their tunes. Sometime it seems it’s a miracle that this music still exists.... Reservations at fifthstfarms com Doors open at 7, music at 7:30 $20 cash at the door all proceeds go to the musicians.

Terra Incognita Saturday, January 4 https://www.facebook.com/Terra-Incognita-115083773259622/ Terra Incognita is Shira Kammen, Robin Petrie, and Peter Maund, three Bay Area musicians with rich backgrounds in international folk, classical, contemporary and traditional music. The trio performs its own compositions as well as unique arrangements of traditional songs and dances.... Terra Incognita is on a musical adventure to intertwine ancient and new compositions with moments of improvisation, venturing into unknown lands and soundscapes. This concert will be a musical ritual to honor the New Year and celebrate new beginnings, with traditional repertoire from Brittany, Sweden, Bulgaria, Greece, India and more, and original compositions drawn from that same international wellspring. Shira Kammen is a multi-instrumentalist (and occasional singer) who performs on violin, vielle, rebec and harp. Robin Petrie plays the santour, or hammered dulcimer, and Peter Maund plays various frame drums, tambourine, doumbek and other hand drums. All three are well known to Bay Area audiences and have performed at Fifth Street Farms with other groups in the past. We're pleased to have them back in this new formation. Renegade Duo, Sat, Dec 7 https://renegadeduo.weebly.com/ Renegade Duo is Jon Mendle, guitar and lute, and Melinda Martinez Becker, mezzo soprano. Jon and Melinda started making music together when they were students at the San Francisco Conservatory. They formed Renegade Duo in 2017 with the intention of focusing on uncommon and rarely heard repertoire for guitar and voice. For us they'll play sets of songs for lute and voice by Elizabethan composers Thomas Ford and John Dowl...and, songs by the Spanish guitarist and composer Salvador Castro de Gistau, played on an antique guitar from the 19th century, Sephardic folk songs arranged by the contemporary guitarist and composer Dusan Bogdanovic, and solo pieces on renaissance lute and 19th century guitar. The concert will conclude with a set of songs arranged for voice and guitar by 19th century African American classical guitarist Justin Holland. In addition to a successful career performing, arranging and teaching, Holland was also a civil rights activist who worked on the Underground Railroad. His music is virtually unknown today, and the Renegade Duo is doing their part to change that.
