RETRO COOLER At the risk of sounding overly contrarian, can Westcoast Kettle Sour please be a thing? We love experimentation, but we also love clean, dry, and expressive beers that aren’t fortified with fructose like it’s a liquid race and the finish line is diabeetus. With Retro Cooler we went and fermented the shit out of the heaps of strawberries and lemons in this Sour until it finished with a gravity close to nil. Hot Chocolate is an ode to the beauty that is Mexican Hot Chocolate. With a base beer consisting of a softly bittered Foreign Export Stout we then added copious amounts of Chocolate, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cayenne Pepper, Milk Sugar, and Ancho Chilies. All of these flavors and spice characters are backed up by a huge creamy body; however the restrained sweetness and spicy heat helps retain its drinkable nature. The upfront cayenne-induced heat is assertive, but quickly dissipates ...to the big milk chocolate character that had previously dominated the nose. All of these Abuelita-inspired flavors meld elegantly, ending with rich cinnamon notes and hints of smoke provided by the Ancho Chilies. Originally brewed as an ode to our original brewhouse somehow making it to 5,000 batches of beer; and as we promised then "we won't get to brew again until we get a new brewhouse." Well, we put in the new brewhouse earlier this year and have decided to bring back Powerbatch. This big ol' Double IPA uses some of our favorite hops; Citra and Mosaic from the Pacific Northwest, our tried and true defacto hops that never fail, alongside their South African counterparts, Southern P...assion which mimics many of the peach and orange sherbet flavors of Citra, and Southern Star which gives us all those same berry and ripe melon notes we love Mosaic for having. A true evolution of a beer Mota Machine started many moons ago with our baes from the South Bay, Humble Sea, as a collab with them named "All Sticky No Icky." That beer got inched down on the ABV and became Rasta Sauce IPA, of which we have since dropped one of the hops for our contract and... subbed it in for Denali. The heart and soul of this beer is still incredibly sticky and completely void of icky, but now has a really nice katana of super sweet pineapple that slices through the giant plumes of dank giggle bush vaulting from the glass. The only fair comparison we could give is that if Rasta Sauce was OG Kush then Mota Machine is definitely Pineapple Express.
