Announcing our move to the heart of San Francisco's commercial retail district at 711 Market Street. Please update your contacts.
German Philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once famously compared architecture to frozen music. As we reach that time of year when our retail spaces are filled with the merry sounds of holiday muzak, this led Field Paoli's Yann Taylor to wonder: if architecture is frozen music, should retail architecture be frozen muzak? Visit the link in our bio for a lighthearted blog post about this much-maligned feature of our retail environments, one which explores how thinking about retail architecture as frozen muzak rather than frozen music might change our approach to the design of retail destinations. Happy Holidays!

La Felicita The first Food Hall in Paris is Italian? The concept of a food hall (halle gourmande literally greedy hall) is not something Parisians are familiar with: lunch or dinner is to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace, preferably on a café terrace. Until recently The Enfants Rouges market in the Marais was the closest thing Paris had to a food hall order your food at one of the market stands, and then go find a table - but it’s still waiter service (as is the new E...ataly located a few blocks away). Luckily help is finally at hand for traveling food hall addicts: the recently opened La Felicita market, created within the shell of an old railway hangar, located in the up-and-coming 13th arrondissement (just south of the Austerlitz railway station, next to the French National Library) provides over 45,000 sf of Italian food options, with a number of indoor and outdoor casual dining areas. The place was bustling on a Monday lunchtime, and is apparently even busier in the evenings, proving that while the French may be reluctant to find new ways to enjoy their traditional cuisine, they are open to new ways of eating foreign food! Took a #retail research trip to @visitrestore in San Francisco's Maiden Lane. Rotating Instagram brands, each with the maker's story, plus an events and co-working space. As you enter they offer you a glass of wine and as you exit they ask, "Did you enjoy your journey?" Journey-shaping is at the heart of successful retail design.
