Fertile Turtle Acupuncture 19.01.2021

In a New Zealand study, acupuncture has been found to be effective in reducing the pain of dysmenorrhoea (by 50%), and benefitting other symptoms, after 3 months (12 treatments). The treatment effect continued for up to a year. The study compared both manual and electrical stimulation and different protocols (e.g. concentrating treatments in the week before the period, or spreading them through the month). All the women received a treatment on the first or second day of treatment. There was no significant difference in outcome between the groups although the authors suggest the sample size may have been too small to determine this accurately. Full study in the link.

In one, the time to pregnancy was halved in subfertile women receiving acupuncture plus lifestyle advice compared to lifestyle advice alone. In the other, electroacupuncture was found to improve hormone levels in patients with diminished ovarian reserve.
