This is an unthinkable tragedy. Parenting a child with ASD can be incredibly stressful, particularly at this time when neither support nor services are sufficiently accessible. If you or anyone you know is finding parenting stress to be unmanageable, please reach out for help. Drs. Fenning and Baker are currently reaching out to our local colleagues in hopes of developing a collaborative network to address this issue in our area. In the meantime, please contact us at [email protected] https://www.miamiherald.com//l/crime/article242952751.html

The public health crisis can be even more challenging for individuals with IDD and ASD and those who support them. In this new special episode of the APA podcast ACCESS Division 33, Drs. Baker and Fenning gathered advice from 12 experts in order to help families deal with issues related to parenting, stress, family, homeschooling, interventions, and maintaining social connection. Much of the information will be helpful for families of children with neurotypical development as well! Listen through Apple Podcasts or the Division 33 website at: http://www.division33.org/podcast

We at Fenning & Baker Psychology are taking concerns over the spread of the coronavirus seriously. Clients should have received correspondence from their therapist explaining that we are waiving all cancellation fees due to illness, encouraging symptomatic and high-risk clients to stay home, increasing our capacity for telehealth options, and taking measures to reduce exposure in the office. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

Children with ASD are at high-risk for poor oral health. Dr. Fenning led a recent paper by the Autism Treatment Network (ATN) examining access to dental care for children with ASD and identifying certain children with ASD who are at particularly high risk. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10803-020-04420-8
