Divorce in California can add up in cost. Fortunately, we have created a list of resources on our website that can help with the process.
Our country has always seen discrimination, violence, and racism towards Asian Americans. This dangerous pattern has only increased during this pandemic. Feinberg & Waller shares their greatest sympathies with all the victims of Asian hate. It's our responsibility as business owners, community members, and humans to recognize, acknowledge, and call out the acts that we have seen time after time (in person and the media) for what it is: racism, hate, and terrorism. We invite you to explore The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, offering pro bono legal resources through their Hate Crime Task Force. The link below will take you to their website and define and explain the differences between hate crimes and hate incidents and how to report said crimes. https://www.napaba.org/page/HateCrimeResources
To our Irish friends, happy St. Patrick’s Day!
According to the American Bar Association (as of 2020), women only make up 37% of lawyers nationally. We are proud of the women behind Feinberg & Waller; 50% of our attorneys are women-identifying. As a whole, our team is 72% women-identifying. The firm remains committed to diversity, creating opportunities, and opening dialogue for all individuals. Feinberg & Waller stands with and supports ALL women. International Women's Day 2021 theme is Choose to Challenge. "We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world." -The International Women's Day Website. #ChooseToChallenge
California Family Law, a textbook written by Marshall W. Waller with Ryan C. Waller, has been published in its eighth edition by Wolters Kluwer. The text is a cohesive discussion of all aspects of California family law written for professors, students, paralegals and lawyers. The impactful educational book integrates statutory law and judicial interpretation and various judicial council forms used in family law practice. Ryan Waller was not yet born when the first edition of this book was published; he is currently in his third year of law school. His extensive efforts to assist his father, Marshall Waller, with this latest edition have helped to make it the best yet! https://www.amazon.com/California-Family-Law-//ref=sr_1_3

This 2020 election held amidst serious political polarization, economic distress, a global pandemic, and a reckoning over racial injustice will have significant impact surrounding policy issues. There are contrasting policies at stake; citizens have the privilege to participate in making decisions that will affect them at both national and local levels. We support those who are choosing to use their voice through the process of voting!
Alina Champon is this year's recipient of The Feinberg & Waller Mock Trial Leadership Award! https://www.feinbergwaller.com/community-outreach/ Ms. Champon is a junior at San Marino High School (San Marino Unified Schools) where she is the team captain for her mock trial team. Beyond having a clear love for mock trial, she showed us a record of leadership and commitment to her community. Some of her favorite philanthropies are Villa Esperanza Services (serving intellectually/...developmentally disabled individuals), AbilityFirst (providing programs and services to help children and adults with disabilities) and Union Station Homeless Services (helping adults and families facing hunger, homelessness, and poverty in the community). She has spoken publicly as an advocate for Laotian people at the Laotian American National Alliance and The Lao Reunion. She has joined the International Youth Tobacco Control and went on to lobby and testify at a Los Angeles Board of Supervisors meeting to ensure that flavored tobacco products were banned. She is also the Director of Publicity for the Gay-Straight Alliance at her high school. We are so pleased to mentor Alina Champon and highlight her dedication to her community!

Three months ago, Feinberg & Waller, A. P. C., like many other businesses and companies, released a public statement standing in solidarity with the Black community in the fight against systemic racial injustice. We are holding ourselves accountable and sharing the work we promised would come from our own personal education. Feinberg & Waller’s employees have a long history of volunteer and activist work. We have been proud of our firm’s dedication to social impact; however,... we know we must continually do more to responsibly address inequality and disparities in our society. We remain committed to bettering ourselves, our firm and our community. Feinberg & Waller is taking action by further investing in transforming the lives of young people. Our law firm is pleased to establish an annual award to honor a student leader involved in the Constitutional Rights Foundation Los Angeles County Mock Trial Competition, a non-profit, non-partisan educational foundation. The Feinberg & Waller Mock Trial Leadership Award will amplify teen voice and action by highlighting one student each year who has made an impact on their team and community! The award will preference students who have displayed leadership, who are rising juniors in high school, and are BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and/or Disabled students, or active allies to any of these mentioned communities. Our goal is that each year a new student will be added to this network of young leaders. They will be able to gain guidance from Feinberg & Waller attorneys, and from one another. The details of the monetary award and mentorship/leadership program can be found on our Community Outreach page: https://www.feinbergwaller.com/community-outreach/
The goal in child custody battles is to reach an outcome that is in the child's best interest. We help parents protect their relationships with their children.
We’re not sitting around in our pajamas! We stay connected as a firm in our shared commitment to bringing excellent service to our clients. Our talented associate attorney, Adina Rosenfeld, is joining us this week for the law office daily conference via remote technology from Munich, Germany. Feinberg & Waller practice areas include: Hague Convention international custody disputes, child abduction cases, and out of state move away situations. We can assist in establishing virtual visitation parenting plans for these complicated cases. We are pleased to have the availability of Ms. Rosenfeld's German language skills, and administrative assistant Alyssa Boyer’s fluency in French to enhance our proficiency.

When a single or divorced parent is presented with an opportunity that requires a big move, custody must be taken into consideration.
Mary Ellen Waller recently had the privilege of sharing her expertise as an attorney-columnist for the Los Angeles / San Francisco Daily Journal, publications covering legal affairs in California. Mary Ellen is a director, shareholder and general counsel of Feinberg & Waller, she is admitted to practice law in both New York and California. She is a true New Yorker at heart (even after more than thirty years as a California attorney), determined to fearlessly push through adve...rsity, not afraid to speak her mind, with a straight forward candid way of perceiving and communicating. She knows sources of opinion and perspective are what makes a democracy. Clients of Feinberg & Waller receive added value from her role as general counsel; they are not charged for Mary Ellen’s skills and support of the firm. She has volunteered many hours throughout her career, lending her talents to advocate on important, difficult public policy issues. Attorneys Adina Rosenfeld and Sarah Gorrell of Feinberg & Waller attending one of the last in-person seminars shortly before the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders went into effect. They have since applied information they learned about new caselaw (Marriage of Brooks, discussed below) in advancing a case for one of our clients. The recently certified for publication case of Marriage of Brooks used apportionment formulas derived from the Pereira and the Van Camp cases. The Marriag...e of Brooks case addressed factors regarding active appreciation versus passive appreciation apportionment between separate and community property. Notably, the husband in Marriage of Brooks was a co-founder of DigiDesign, which became known for two industry altering, wildly successful digital audio work station products, Sound tools and Protools. These digital audio work stations were a huge leap in advancement capabilities for the music industry. https://law.justia.com///court-of-appeal/2019/h043467.html See more

We have been supporting vendors in our local community for decades and will continue to do so. Denice from Calabasas Flowers has regularly provided Feinberg & Waller with gorgeous floral arrangements to cheer our clients and enhance the beauty of our office surroundings. We hope that others in the local area will consider supporting the small businesses who are struggling during this time of crisis.
Today we celebrate the birth of the United States of America as a free nation. Across the continent we grapple with two battles, a raging pandemic and a cultural war over social institutions. Let us not get lost in the extremes of cultural skirmishes that are characterized by vituperative divisions. Don’t abandon the values and spirit of the Declaration of Independence. It is critical that we put down the weapons of cultural warfare and find ways of creating common discourse so we may find rational answers to the problems of our society. America has an extraordinary history of accommodating cultural diversity, let us work towards consensus in expanding universal equality and dignity. Happy 4th of July!
