For my political brethren, I debunk a too common belief that plagues many campaigns-- the misclassification of day-to-day campaign workers. Good rule of thumb: if they are working in your office, they are not independent contractors. So pay your fair share of the payroll taxes and avoid penalties for willful misclassification starting January 1. Oh, and carry workers compensation insurance. Happy holidays from The Law Office of Dria Fearn.
Don't be caught misclassifying your workers as independent contractors. New law imposing steep fines goes into effect on January 1, 2012.
Effective January 31st, businesses must post notice informing employees of their rights. Post includes link to free, ready-to-print poster download (in English and Spanish).
Know a student with disabilities in college? Check out my article appearing in the State of California's Youth Transition Toolkit that provides tips on how to succeed. The Transition Toolkit is a project of the California Health Improvement Incentives Project and funded by a grant from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
An interesting article from the WSJ Blog for you small business owners.
