A child deserves to play and not work. Did you know that the world’s largest supplier of cocoa beans is the Ivory Coast in West Africa, providing 43% of the world’s supply? Parents in nearby poverty-stricken countries sell their children to traffickers believing that they will find honest work. Little do they know, these children, usually around 11-16 years old, sometimes younger, are forced to do hard manual labor harvesting cocoa 80-100 hours a week. They are paid nothing..., are barely fed, are beaten regularly, especially if they try to escape. Most will never see their families again. We raise awareness for #fairtrade because we want to fight against this atrocity of child slavery involved in most of the chocolate bars we eat. Next time you reach for a chocolate bar or buy Halloween candy, think about the children and reach for ethical + fair trade options. . . . This is why we are doing the #fairtradeonthemove challenge. You can reach out to family, school clubs, roommates, coworkers, etc, to form a team. Getting more people involved means raising more awareness! 2. Pick Your Move: Do you want to bike, swim, walk, run, hike, golf, or something else? Be creative, the options are endless! Pick your move and get your gear ready. ... 3. Set Your Goal: The journey for victims to escape and to recover is an uphill climb. The path is difficult and different for everyone. We encourage you to pick a goal that is hard for you, whether it's 5 miles, 20 hours, or 100 reps. Set a goal that will be challenging but not impossible to complete. 4. Set Up Your Page: In this Campaign, you can set up a fundraising page as an individual or team! Customize your page with photos, videos, and your story, sharing why YOU care about Fair Trade. 5. Get the Word Out: Every advocate is encouraged to raise as much as they can. Raising $100 should be a snap! (To raise $100, you simply need 10 people to give $10, 4 people to give $25, or any combination in between.)
