One of the most effective keys to unlocking student potential may actually be tied to a relatively simple concept tapping into the student’s mindset, or the e...stablished set of attitudes that he or she believes about themself. A student who holds a fixed mindset might say, I’m not very smart, so I’ll never understand this, while a student with a growth mindset might respond, If I keep working and look at this from several different angles, I’ll eventually figure it out. Students who subscribe to a growth mindset lean toward embracing challenges, persisting in the face of setbacks, seeing effort as a path to mastery, learning from feedback, and finding lessons and inspiration in the success of others. So just how do educators get students to internalize this way of thinking? How can they develop a growth mindset for kids? Shoot Hoops Not Drugs THE LARGEST DRUG-ABUSE PREVENTION CAMPAIGN IN THE NATION - Fairmont SJC is celebrating ##RedRibbonWeek to encourage students to Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free. This year's Red Ribbon Week theme, Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free., will help encourage children, families and communities to live healthy, happy and drug-free lives. It also serves as a reminder that we are all empowered with shaping the communities around us through positivity, bravery and strength.

Did you know that Fairmont Schools partnered with Orange County Education Foundation to bring a merit scholarship program to its new San Juan Capistrano (SJC) campus? The Fairmont SJC Merit Scholarship Program was open to newly-enrolling students entering grades 6-9. Scholarships were not based on financial need. Instead, they were awarded to qualified applicants who demonstrate the potential to make a significant contribution to the school through excellence in academics, le...adership, co-curricular activities, and service. We are proud to announce this year's merit scholarship winners - Lucy and Gewels Lucy is the embodiment of the well-rounded student. She has been able to maintain exceptional grades, all while pursuing her many interests outside of school. Lucy has a particular passion for art, perhaps because she has seen, first hand, how her artwork impacted her grandfather -- a Stage IV cancer patient. Some days he’s tired and weak, and doesn’t want to do a lot, Lucy wrote in her scholarship essay. But when I give him one of my many ‘feel better cards’ or paintings, he lights up, and changes into a blossoming person. Gewels says she’s excited to be at Fairmont because she has the opportunity to be part of a new community. And rest assured, she will make a BIG contribution to our Warrior famly! A 4.0 student who loves English and writing, Gewels earned a place on the Distinguished Honor Roll at her previous school -- an accomplishment achieved by only seven of the roughly 300 students there. She has set her sights on continuing this level of academic excellence at Fairmont. As she wrote in her scholarship essay, I always try to remember why I started working hard to achieve my goal from the start, and always try to remain positive. Since Fairmont’s inception in 1953, we have been committed to making our outstanding educational experience as accessible as possible, said David Jackson, Chairman of Fairmont Schools. The addition of our SJC Excellence Merit Scholarship program builds on that long-standing commitment. We are delighted to bring this opportunity to the community surrounding our newest campus. Let’s get ready to take it to the mat, Fairmont! Fairmont Athletic Academy has recently added a wrestling program to its offerings! We are so excited to announce the hiring of Mark Muñoz who will coach and oversee the new wrestling program. Coach Muñoz’s records as a competitor and a coach are impressive, but what’s even more incredible is the passion he has for impacting young lives in a positive way. My favorite thing about coaching wrestling is that there are so... many life lessons that can be taught from this sport, he said. He wants students to understand that When you are being held down by a circumstance or situation, you must find a way to rise above. You must embrace the struggles, difficult situations, and trials of various kinds to test yourself mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. And this is just the beginning -- plans are being made to bring wrestling to the high school level for the 2021-22 school year. Go Warriors!

Fairmont’s Reopening Task Force has worked tirelessly to develop a plan which puts safety first. They’ve consulted with numerous health, medical, and education experts in addition to closely and continually monitoring local, state, and federal guidelines. The result the establishment of best practices and implementation of new protocols.
