Having been severely bullied in school growing up Queer in the midwest, I know what it’s like to feel alienated, alone, and longing to be accepted. Even in 2020, 80% of young LGBTQIA2s+ athletes weren’t out to their coaches or teammates. Meeting and falling in love with @breesframes was the first time I started to accept and love myself for who I am. Feeling loved for who I truly am by somebody else allowed me to realize that I can love myself. Our favorite quote is, be... who you needed when you were younger. I try to become that person every day; someone young athletes can see, and believe they can achieve the happiness I have despite how cruel the world can be to our community. The purpose behind the creation of this shoe is multi-faceted. Visibility is so important in every community, and working with two of my favorite brands that allowed us to decide on organizations that benefit BIPOC/LGBTQIA2S+ (@theventureoutproject @inclusiveoutdoorsproject ) and specifically the Black Trans Community (@blacktranstravelfund #blacktranslivesmatter ) was validating in today’s climate. The world needs more love and acceptance. I only hope to reach the kids I can, and to be the person that I needed when I was younger, for them. Shoutout to our partners at @adaptclimbgroup, here's what they've been up to since receiving the funds that you all were able to raise by purchasing the @ashimashiraishi x @wearebraindead Zenist! Yesterday in @mohonkpreserve was epic. Our carefully coordinated outdoor excursion with our COVID friendly guidelines in play. There are plenty of smiles behind those facemasks. Here are some extra measures we took this trip: All new gear, to better control surface contact contaminat...ion. Provided PPE/thermometers, and sanitizer. Training for COVID pod attendees of participants who need close contact to assist in #climbing led by our program leaders over the last few weeks via live online platforms. For those who required transportation from the city An #accessible charter bus was provided so our small group dynamic could also be social distanced while traveling. We would also like to thank our amazing volunteers and @evolv_worldwide @ashimashiraishi @chris_vultaggio eir efforts this year that gave us the opportunity to bring climbing back into the lives of our community members.
