One of my teachers reminded me of the following practice: if you are having trouble with someone, pray for them every day for two weeks. This prayer can also be understood at a meditation on sending the person loving kindness. This feels like a fitting practice for the current celebration of liberation for Passover, the emergence of Spring, and the expanding moon. The energy is ripe to set intentions and take focused action to create a brighter world. #mettameditation #lovingkindness #compassion #prayer #passover #liberation #spring #fullmoon #settingintentions #ritual #healing #mindbodyspirit #earthconnection #healingwiththeseasons #radicalfeminism #relationships #therapy #holistictherapist #somatictherapist #onlinetherapist #therapygroup #innerjourney #hope #freedom #happiness #rainbow #stopscrolling #breathe #meditate #mindfulness

Don't let your inner critic steal your joy! We all have an inner critic; the voice that tells us we aren't good enough. Often, it's so dominant that we don't even realize it's our internal bully because we take it to be the truth. We live in a perfectionistic, productivity-obsessed culture, which leaves little space for the ease and lightness of play and fun. We are conditioned to think that we have to be good at everything we do, or else there is no point. But the point is t...o learn, grow, overcome, and enjoy the process. We can call back in our childlike curiosity, openness, innocence, and presence. In these moments we are purely living. Many of us on the healing path can get quite serious about the journey. The inner critic loves rigidity. But just as rest is crucial, so is play. During play, we unwind, release, and expand in an effortless way. Life is to be enjoyed. Give yourself the grace to be imperfect, to fall down, laugh at yourself, and try again. How do you dance with failure and play? . . . . . #play #fun #failure #falluntilyoudont #resilience #lightenup #innercritic #partswork #therapy #onlinetherapy #healingjourney #traumahealing #somatictherapy #holistictherapist #joy #practicejoy #loosenup #heartcentered #giftsofimperfection #healingshame #wholeheartedliving #rest #mindfulness #mentalhealth #wellbeing #lifeisgood #presence #grace #happiness #spring

We are all wired for love and connection. When our dependency needs were not adequately met in our first years of life, we may end up with insecure attachment styles in our adult relationships. Insecure attachment patterns include anxious, avoidant, ambivalent, disorganized, or a combination. While most of our wounding occurs within the context of relationships, our greatest healing also happens within relationships. Secure attachment involves a sense of safety and trust, as ...well as willingness to be vulnerable and understanding with both yourself and the other. We are capable of repairing our attachment wounds and building secure attachment styles. Secure attachment can be cultivated through a healthy relationship with someone who is securely attached. It can also be developed through working with the right therapist in individual, couples, or group therapy. Personally, I am so grateful for my own therapy that has helped me to show up as my best self in my relationship with my husband. It is the most human thing to want to be in relationship. Therapy is a relational process and can help you improve your relationship with yourself and others in your life. It can help prepare you for when you do meet that special person, or work through issues in your current partnership. Whether you are presently attached or flying solo, you can use the energy of Valentine's Day to court a sense of security within your heart and being. If you want support in working on this, email me to schedule a free consultation call to explore if we are a good fit to work together. I look forward to hearing from you! #secureattachment #anxiousattachment #avoidantattachment #attachmentstyles #relationships #therapy #couplestherapy #valentinesdayadvice #love #romance #relationaltherapy #partswork #somatichealing #multiculturalcouple #personalpost #healing #mindfulness #personalgrowth #datingadvice #relationshipgoals #marriage #millenialtherapist #onlinetherapy #grouptherapy #holistictherapy #marriedcouple

Boundaries are essential to our health and wellbeing. Many people struggle with boundaries, especially those that tend towards people pleasing, caretaking, high empathy, high sensitivity, and trauma survivors. For these groups, boundaries can feel "mean" and "selfish" because they are accustomed to catering to what the other party wants rather than their own needs. While this pattern originally developed as an effective and brilliant survival strategy, it is likely leaving yo...u feeling burned out, resentful, and disconnected from yourself. Boundary work is an ongoing practice of checking in with yourself and identifying what you need in any given situation or relationship. It involves determining what is flexible and what is non-negotiable for you. Once you have identified your limits, the next step is to put them into action. This may involve communication, changing your behavior, and/or an internal mindset shift. Boundary work is a journey and does get easier with practice. It can be so helpful to work through boundary issues with the support of a therapist. The theme of boundaries is one of our topics in the Sacred Self Care Group. We are opening up a weekday morning time slot for the group. Please reach out with any questions or share with anyone who may benefit! . . . . . . . . #boundaries #wellbeing #healthyboundaries #boundarywork #relationships #healthyrelationships #coaching #onlineclass #onlinetherapy #therapygroup #selfcare #healthylifestyle #healingjourney #womensgroup #codependency #caretaking #highlysensitive #empathrecovery #traumasurvivor #peoplepleasing #mindfulness #meditation #selfdiscovery #holistictherapist #somatictherapist #sacred #empowerment #burnedout #compassionfatigue

Great quote on why self compassion is so important for doing the inner work.

Perfectionism is a form of self abuse. The antidote is allowing ourselves, others, and the world to be what it is. Through this practice of allowance, we have more space to create balance and harmony. #therapy #holistictherapy #perfectionism #balance #acceptance #harmony #health #mentalhealth #wellbeing #perfectionist #healing #holistic

Resting is healing. As we head into the colder, darker months, it's healthy to slow down and let yourself rest. #mentalhealth #holistictherapy #wellness #wellbeing #rest #therapy #somatic #healing

Spending time with nature is deeply healing ~ Studies have shown that connecting with nature calms the nervous system, lowers blood pressure and heart rate, eases muscle tension, decreases stress hormones, and reduces feelings of anxiety and depression. Appreciating nature helps us slow down and tune into the present moment. How have you been connecting with nature lately? How did it make you feel? #ecotherapy #holistichealing #somatichealing #therapist #peace #healing #integration #therapy

Honoring earth allies ~ Many of us turn to earth allies for support. This can be taking herbal supplements, drinking herbal teas, smudging (a practice from indigenous cultures of burning dried fragrant plants like sage or cedar wood to cleanse the air and work with energies) botanical skin care, enjoying nature, cooking, bathing, and so much more. We are inextricably linked to nature; we are nature. When we use these practices, there is a way to deepen the connection, so that... both we and our nature allies benefit. The key is slowing down, presence, and intention. For example, there is a difference between taking a shower and just going through the motions, versus bringing awareness to the fact that the water is a gift, helping you to wash away stagnant energies and impurities. There is a difference between taking an herb in hopes that it cures your health condition versus making sure that you have cleaned up your diet and lifestyle first (personal responsibility and non wastefulness of precious resources) and honoring and thanking the herb for its service to you. We can tune into and get to know the spirit of the plant and ask it directly for assistance. It is a conversation, a dialogue, an exchange. We honor our earth allies by being conscious in our consumption. Clearing energy is important, especially for sensitive, empathetic, and porous types. But everyone can benefit from energetic hygiene. Walking barefoot on the earth, you breathe in the healing vibrations from earth, while sending down what’s ready to be recycled. The sun cleanses you. Earth loves to support us. Her messages can be transmitted through subtle energy, thus requiring us to slow down, still our busyness, and attune to the vibration of nature. How do you connect with earth allies? #holistichealth #mentalhealth #naturalwellness #ecotherapy #holistictherapy #empath #highlysensitive #energyhealing #respectnature

Feeling stuck ~ Sometimes we get stuck in a rut. It can be triggered by an experience, an interaction, thoughts, physical issues, memories, etc. A switch gets turned on and the negative thoughts start spiraling. When we stew in these thoughts, our brains and bodies literally become a stew of unhappy chemicals. And thus we get stuck in the rut. Many of us know the tools to use- exercise, yoga, meditation, outdoors, breathwork, art, reaching out, journaling, etc. But when we ar...e frozen in anxiety and/or depression we can feel unable to do what we know is good for us. We can feel overwhelmed with guilt and shame for feeling so stuck. One way to work with this is just trying one thing that feels easy and enjoyable. You probably won’t want to start, but once you do, your inner state will shift and you will no longer feel so stuck. The more distracting the activity, the better, because it will draw your mind away from its repetitive and harmful patterns. It will give your system a chance to recalibrate. We can think of our lives, our psyches, bodies, and beings as a river. It naturally flows in its rightful rhythm. Trauma is like a rock in the river interrupting the smooth flow. Therefore, a big part of trauma work is resourcing. That is, learning how to continue flowing despite the rock being there. How do you get your river back into harmony after being thrown off its flow? #trauma #anxiety #depression #healing #therapy #holistictherapy #somatictherapy

Bibliophiles ~ I just added a recommended reading list on my website (under ‘resources’). It includes books on: trauma, self compassion, coping skills, conscious relationships, anxiety, addictions/compulsions, food/eating, holistic health, grief & loss, spirituality, social justice, highly sensitive people, creativity, and therapy. I love reading and find books to be so helpful in the process of healing and transformation. I hope you enjoy the list and I’d love to hear if you find anything interesting. #booklovers #bibliophile #trauma #selfcompassion #copingskills #consciousrelationships #anxiety #addictions #healthyeating #holistichealth #grief #loss #spirituality #socialjustice #highlysensitivepeople #creativity #therapy #selfhealing

Acceptance ~ The first step to healing is always acceptance. Acceptance of yourself, your feelings, the external world, things as they are. Acceptance does not mean that we have to like or condone what is happening. It means that we simply accept reality as it is in this moment. Resisting against reality is what causes suffering. Fighting reality only depletes your energy and limits your awareness. Acceptance is a practice of letting go of the desires and aversions of the ego..., and allowing life to be what it is. As you get out of your own way you will find an effortless freedom. A doorway into presence. From this open state you can access greater choice, creativity, and flow. Therapy can help with acceptance. The process can be challenging and often support is needed along the way. Instagram posts cannot teach the work, but I hope to provide a bite sized sample of what I’m thinking about this week. #acceptance #freedom #presence #therapy #holistictherapy #healing #flow #creativity #meditation #ecotherapy #peace #prayer

Impermanence ~ Feelings, moods, thoughts, and situations are constantly shifting. No state is permanent or stagnant. Even the heaviest grief or darkest depression ebbs and flows. When in the depths of pain it can feel like ‘this is everything. It’s always been like this and always will be.’ But that’s the mind playing tricks. Even in the hardest moments we can touch into equanimity by remembering that everything passes. Night turns to day. The wave crashes. The butterfly emerges from the cocoon. Life (and death) is an ongoing process of transformation. #depression #grief #healing #transformation #mindfulness #therapy #holistichealing #ecotherapy #dontgiveup #impermanence #meditation

What does ‘holistic therapy’ mean? ~ Holistic therapy treats the whole person body, mind, and soul, and believes that each of these elements impacts the others. The goal is to bring the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of a person into alignment and harmony. In addition to traditional talk therapy, holistic therapy integrates somatic and non-cognitive modalities such as mindfulness, art therapy, dream work, energy work, Somatic Experiencing, Authentic Mov...ement, Hakomi, Diamond Heart, and Parts Work. My work is also attachment based and relational, meaning that the unique relationship between therapist and client serves as the catalyst for growth and healing. I create a safe environment, one that is both supportive and challenging, that allows you to organically resolve old defenses that no longer serve you. Through this process you learn to befriend formerly subconscious ‘parts’ of yourself and gently integrate these wounded parts into your wiser self that is already whole. Healing is a process of becoming more self aware so that you live from a conscious and embodied state. #holistictherapy #somatictherapy #healing #trauma #bodymindspirit #soul #therapy #integrativehealth
