Funny story. Several weeks ago, I was invited to chat with a Christian radio station about Eternity Bible College. I was told my interview would happen right af...ter a short scriptural devotion/prayer. So, after we went live, I thought I would sit quietly on hold while someone else came on to do the devotion first. As it turned out, I misread the email because the first thing that happened was the host introducing me and then saying, "We're going to turn things over to you and let you share what God has laid on your heart." We were so thankful this week to have Dr Matthew Halsted share our story and highlight what God is doing here in Brazil. I encourage you to check out his site a...nd see some of the articles on his blog. This fall I was blessed with a preview class with him via zoom through Eternity Bible College studying the historical/cultural/religious backgrounds of the New Testament. It was a very helpful study that has assisted me greatly in sermon/lesson preparation here. Looking back to the original context of the letters, we can better understand the content and apply it within our current context. This is especially helpful for me as an american pastor in a foreign context. Making the effort to step away from seeing through my own cultural lens has helped me to grow in preaching the Gospel purely and simply. Dr. Halsted writes a lot about this and speaks from his heart.
