The County of Santa Clara has issued a stay-at-home order that began on December 6 and will least until January 4, 2021. Evergreen Studio of Music & the Arts will have lessons remain online until further notice. Rest assured our school will be vigilantly watching for guidelines from health official on how to operate safely in the near future. Although the pandemic has changed our daily lives, we are dedicated to continuing our mission of providing musical education to our co...mmunity. #FlashbackFriday In honor of Philippine American Heritage Month, NorCal Academy of Performing Arts in association with Evergreen Studio of Music & the Arts proudly produced the Philippine Ballet Theatre's Filipino Masterpeices & Seyre at Sayaw at SJSU's Hammer Theatre back in June last year. Our organization featured the Philippine Ballet who traveled all the way from the Philippines to bring to the US stage the culture of the Philippines expressed through song and dance.... NAPA partnered with PBT to create two parts of the spectacular. Filipino Masterpieces is a flavorful blend of the Philippines' world of tradition and influence from many countries while Seyre at Sayaw conveys a love story that captures romance in modern and classical dance, accompanied by live vocals from our Bay Area Musicians and NAPA students. For this month's #TeacherFeature we are highlighting our very own guitar instructor Mike Obsorn! We asked a couple questions to gain more insight on Mike. -What do you like most about performing? "The thing that I love the most about performing is connecting with people. Both the other musicians on stage, if it's a band gig, and the audience. Without that, for me, the music is great but without purpose. It's the most amazing thing. To use a movie reference, it feels like pl...ugging into the matrix and joining with all the people in the audience." - What is the best practice tip you could give to student's starting out guitar? "The most important tip about practice is consistency. Even 15 minutes done every day will amount to much progress over time. Just put in the time and enjoy the journey. Don't get frustrated, just keep going, and soon these things that seem impossible now will be the easiest thing in the world to do. There is a real important life lesson in that and I love sharing this with my young students. You see, life is just like that. Learning an instrument can teach you that life lesson of not giving up, keep working and don't get intimidate by the odds. I'm lucky that learning guitar taught me that lesson early in life because later on I faced some really difficult odds and got through it by just not stopping and believing in my self. If i can teach my students how to be great guitarists, and I do, that is a great thing. But if, in the process of that, I can help them realize how great they are and how they can overcome so much if they put in the work and ignore the impulse to give up, well then WOW that is truly and honor for me to be able to help in that way." There will be a drive-through celebration for the awardees this afternoon in Milpitas from 3pm to 6pm today at the San Jose City College Milpitas Extension.
