What is California’s Mechanics Lien law? It’s a law that protects contractors, subcontractors, laborers, suppliers, etc. who help build or remodel your home. This lien ensures these workers that they will receive their payment. Even if you paid your contractor in full already, and maybe the contractor hasn’t paid the suppliers, the homeowner is ultimately responsible for making the payments for the services.... Ways to protect yourself: 1Work with a reliable, trusted contractor. 2Have a written contract that lists any suppliers involved and how payment will be handled. 3You can write joint checks made out to the contractor and supplier so it is known who should receive payment. If you are planning on doing a home renovation, make sure you protect yourself!
