Do you know the benefits of walking? If you walk at least 5.5 miles per week you're likely to live longer. Walking this much at a slow pace of 2 miles per hour can be enough to lower your risk of things like heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure by 31%. People who walked farther and faster got even more benefit, in case you needed some extra motivation. Have you registered yet? A diagnosis of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) can be devastating to an athlete. For Eric Scoggins, he took the diagnosis and turned it into a positive by doing what he knew best. As a professional football player, he knew he could accomplish anything he set his mind to with teamwork. Eric surrounded himself with family, friends, and teammates he knew would be able to help him make a difference. He wanted to find a cure and help other ALS patients in the process. Eric, a...s well as many others in the ALS community, understood that it wasn't about what they could achieve for themselves. It's more about what they could achieve for others who would be diagnosed in the future. Coming together and working as a team to find a cure is what Eric's Vision is all about. With fellow NFL players like Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott on board, the 2021 Virtual 10K Birthday Walk/Run/Rideevent will be a huge success. By holding the event virtually, anyone can participate no matter where their location or what limitation they may have! Even though Eric is no longer with us, his spirit lives on through this event and others. Eric's Vision is setting goals that will lay the groundwork for the fundraising events that will make it possible for ALS research to continue. The Eric's Vision team is dedicated to making a cure for ALS a reality. By joining the team and participating in the 2021 Virtual 10K Birthday Walk/Run/Ride, everyone who participates will be making a difference in the lives of ALS patients everywhere! Register today at ericsvision.org and share your race with us at #EVBirthdayVirtual10k #ALS #ericsvision #EricScoggins #Stand4ACure #Stand4Something #FINDACURE

ALS is a kind of MND (Motor Neurone Disease). It attacks the nerve cells that are used in voluntary muscle actions, known as motor neurons. These are actions that we can control, such as those in the arms, face, and legs. Motor Neurons are found in the brain and spinal cord. As ALS progresses, these cells degenerate and die. They stop sending messages to muscles. The brain can no longer control voluntary movement, and the muscles weaken and waste away. THE TWO TYPES OF ALS:... Sporadic ALS occurs randomly, and it accounts for 90 to 95 percent of cases. There is no clear risk factor or cause. Familial ALS is inherited. Around 5 to 10 percent of cases are familial. The child of a person with ALS will have a 50 percent chance of developing the condition. Rarely, it can affect a person in their teens. Researchers are investigating which genes are involved. As ALS progresses, it affects all the voluntary muscles. The person can no longer control their arms, face, and legs. In time, the inability to breathe unsupported can lead to respiratory failure. Eric's Vision was founded to help support research for a cure for ALS. We raise funds and host events to support families affected by this disease. WE NEED YOUR HELP.
