April is National Youth Sports Safety Month, a month dedicated to helping raise awareness of sports injuries in kids while also helping parents, coaches and student athletes learn how to avoid injuries. Before letting your child participate in an organized sport, schedule a physical exam. During the exam, the physician will be able to identify any issues that should be addressed prior to participation.

The 6 links in the Chain of Survival are: 1. Recognition of cardiac arrest, ANY doubt? Call 911 2. Early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) using chest compressions 3. Grab an AED. It talks you through exactly what to do 4. Emergency Medical Services arrive and take over care... 5. Post-cardiac arrest care with the Doc 6. Recovery (may include additional treatment, observation, rehabilitation) The 1st three are for you & me! A strong Chain of Survival can improve chances of survival and recovery for victims of cardiac arrest. #IGotThis See more

Join us in sending positive thoughts and prayers to Bobby Young as he is having open heart surgery this morning to get a Left Ventricle Assist Device, or LVAD. A heart screening 7 years ago after the sudden death of his high school classmate, Jake West, identified a congenital heart condition. That condition led to heart failure.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the #1 killer of student-athletes. It is a heartbreaking public health issue that affects millions of families. Knowing the very simple steps in the Cardiac Chain of Survival can mean the difference between life & death.

This month is full of many different kind of hearts, from cards to candy, but it's the one in your chest that needs special care. February was first recognized as American Heart Month in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, and now it's more important than ever to take health to heart. #HeartMonth

Two years ago, Nic, a competitive martial artist ranked among the Top 10 in Florida for taekwondo began experiencing episodes of heart palpitations and chest pain while exercising. Nic's pediatrician recommended that he see a pediatric cardiologist. After an ECG, echocardiogram and monitoring of Nic's heart activity he was diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome. Doctors performed an ablation and two months later Nic resumed athletic training. Wolfson Children's Hospital

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Nick Challies who collapsed suddenly while playing a game with his sister, fiancée, and several other Boyce College students at a park. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Nick was just 20 years old.

So important to understand the system is under performing in both life and death when it comes to SCA prevention.

Commit the Cardiac Chain of Survival to memory. It may save the life of your favorite people 1) Call 911. 2) Start hands-only CPR. 3) Use an AED if at all possible.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are magical! They talk regular folks like you & me (non-emergency personnel) through EXACTLY what to do if you suspect someone has collapsed from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation 13.09.2020

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is scary. Really scary...but YOU can learn how to save a life with the Cardiac Chain of Survival. 1) Call 911 2) Start hands-only CPR while someone else runs to grab an AED. 3) Open the AED and follow what it says to do until paramedics arrive. #SCAAwarenessMonth #learntosavealife

Alec would have turned 21 today... Alec was an honor roll student, band member and three-sport athlete. He collapsed in cardiac arrest after complaining of feeling lightheaded during hockey practice. Alec was just 17 years old. The current standard of care lacks the necessary prevention protocol to protect the 1 in 300 at risk for sudden cardiac death. Demand more! #4Alec #SCAAwarenessMonth
