Enterprise for Youth 02.05.2021

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the National Day of Service this year, Enterprise for Youth had our youth sign up for community service opportunities during spring break. A group of Enterprise young people volunteered at Mission Food Hub's Food Bank preparing food boxes for families and handed them out. The food bank gives food to thousands of families every week and supports some of the communities hit hardest by the pandemic in San Francisco. The food bank is j...ust a piece of what Mission Food Hub has been doing since the pandemic began. MIssion Food Hub is a place where the community can get employment assistance, school enrollment support, covid testing, tax help, and many other services. We are looking forward to coming back and volunteering again soon. @missionfoodhub #community #service #youthdevelopment #volunteering #mlk

I wanted to join Enterprise’s Youth Council because I thought it would be a good opportunity to learn new skills and give me some leadership experience. I used to be shy and reluctant to speak in front of a lot of people, but Enterprise for Youth has given me a space to present my ideas and opinions.Kami Wang

When my summer plan A and plan B fell through as things were first postponed and then canceled due to Covid-19, I asked my teachers if they knew about any possible opportunities. This is how I came to be part of the 2020 Career Exploration Internship at Enterprise for Youth. This was my first time meeting new people and participating in work meetings through Zoom, and being the youngest in the group was daunting. But as they say, you get what you put in, and I strived to mak...e the most of the work experience while learning, networking, and growing. I applied to Enterprise's Youth Council after the great summer I had with in their virtual summer internship. I am most excited to develop job-readiness, networking, college prep, financial literacy and career planning skills that will help prepare me for life after high school and a future. During our Board Meeting last month, we welcomed new board members Ana Moraga Archila, Daniel Burnett, Donna Boyer, and Tynnetta McIntosh. A very big and heartfelt welcome to our four newest board members who respectively work for Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), #TheraNova, Teladoc, and JPMorgan Chase & Co.. We also said goodbye to departing member, Andy Anderson who served a full six-year term. Thank you, Andy for all your tremendous support! Andy played almost every imaginable role possible as a board member and has always been the first to sign up to work directly with youth. We look forward to a continued connection with Andy. We are kicking off 2021 feeling particularly thrilled about the strength of our board.

Our Reimagined Internship kicked-off last month. Youth were welcomed in English and Spanish and connected through ice breakers and a fun scavenger hunt! Youth in this program get paid for their participation, earn college credit, and develop their leadership skills throughout this semester. This is the first time this internship has existed and we’re grateful to San Francisco Unified School District and Walter and Elise Haas Fund for supporting our efforts to offer innovative program at a difficult time. #reimagined #reimaginedinternship #youthinternships #SFUSD #equity #diversity #inclusion #belonging
