Crude Oil and the Coronavirus have reminded us that markets have unavoidable downturns. What’s important is how you respond. Employ logic vs. emotion. As a reminder, it’s buy low and sell high! Price swings in uncertain times can be an opportunity to add to underperforming asset classes and to look for great companies at discounted prices. We’ll leave you with this question; what happens after markets fall?

Stocks around the world fell yesterday as more cases of the coronavirus were announced. The Dow dropped more than 1,000 points, its biggest decline in over 2 years. It may be comforting to know that the Dow increased by 17% since that time and that past epidemics have had relatively minimal effects on stocks. But, yesterday’s decline can be a test of investor temperament. Keep in mind that stocks do not permanently continue on the path they are on today - either up or down. Our advice; be patient. Keep enough cash available so that you aren’t forced to sell in a decline. The coronavirus may be a health risk, but it is not a portfolio risk for a long term investor with a diversified investment strategy.
