We are excited to announce that our Learn From Home page has launched! It was sent to all of our schools last week and is now open to the public. Everyone is welcome to visit the site! We have lots of ongoing winter harvests in our gardens, but some we’ve been waiting very patiently for Pictured here: giant red cabbage, crunchy carrots, and a beautiful bunch of broccoli flowers. Plus a cabbage slaw made from this harvest! Recipe:... 1/2 head of red cabbage (or 1/4 red + 1/4 green cabbage) 2 med carrots, peeled 1/2 lg yellow bell pepper Chop all ingredients 1 lime, juiced 1+ tbsp ACV (we eyeball it) 1+ tbsp maple syrup/brown sugar/or other organic sweetener (we it) 1+ tbsp olive oil salt+pepper to taste Mix and let marinate for ~10 minutes *Students helped with cleanup during this time Garnish with broccoli flowers and enjoy! #enrichla #enrichlagardens #schoolgardens #outdoorlearning #outdoorclassroom #cookingclass #healthyeating #foodjustice #kidchef #plantpower #antioxidants

How old were you when you first found out that tomatoes are actually a fruit?! Students learn early on about the parts of a plant. They know tomatoes are a fruit because they have seeds inside. But what about the different foods on our plate? Which ones come from a plant and which parts are they? At Sixth Avenue the upper grades split into groups and were each given a food. They used their problem solving skills to create a whole plant by matching each food to its part.... Younger grades journaled from direct observation. After their hard work, we feasted on Parts of a Plant Tacos that students prepared themselves! Recipe: Seeds- Sunflower seeds (1 cup) Roots- Carrots (2 med) Stem- Celery (2 sticks) Flower- Broccoli (1 head) Fruit- Apple (1 lg) Leaves- Greens (use as tortilla) Chop finely and mix with light lemon juice + salt for the dressing. Fill leafy green tortilla. Enjoy!

Last week with the help of student, staff, parent, and community volunteers we built a beautiful garden space at Central High School/Tri-C! @central_tric We are so very proud of the students for all their hard work in helping build their space!! Our Composting Program is underway at Jones Primary Center! Students are starting by collecting their morning-breakfast fruit scraps and bringing them to the garden compost station daily.
