Encounter Apparel

Ran across two paintings I did while getting my art degree. I’ve always had to paint from an internal narrative and it has to have meaning to/for me. The one on the right is about false white masks (Note: the rainbow headdress is not symbolic of homosexuality. A lesbian friend watched me paint it and asked years ago). But the spear is piercing a Klan gown. On the Left: a young boy wearing a glove that doesn’t fit cleaning blood from a glass door with a bullet hole in it. But reads as a Black Power Salute. It’s been 8+- yrs. I know what I was thinking on the right, but I honestly forget the full narrative of the Left, but I also feel it has changed more than anticipated and it feels good, like I’ve grown and the narrative has gained proper perspective from new eyes and is somehow Purer than it had been. When the things you find while packing bring tears. This is the piece I was working on after Could’ve Been Mine (with Martin Luther King and Tupac). It’s been in a shipping box, bagged up, and taped to a drawing board for over ten years...unfinished. The young girl on the bottom left and the girl in the cutout became like a daughters to me as I meditated on their Beauty and Value day after day, using a pencil and trying to show Honor to and Love for their Images. Please forgive me, I’m a bit emotional at the moment
