Apply by 3/31: Grants up to $25K for small businesses, nonprofits, independent contractors Round 5 of the California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program is open through Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 5:00pm. $500 million is available for these grants statewide, in grant amounts ranging from $5,000 to $25,000, for eligible small businesses, nonprofits, and independent contractors impacted by COVID-19 and the related health and safety restrictions which arose from the pa...ndemic. The grant is open to California-based small businesses and nonprofits who are active and have been in operation since at least June 1, 2019. This grant is also open to people that file taxes with TIN numbers and people that work as independent contractors such as rideshare or delivery drivers, or most others who get paid on a 1099. All applicants must be able to show that they were negatively impacted by COVID-19, through situations such as business closures or restrictions. APPLY NOW Learn more about the program and how to apply here: https://CAReliefGrant.com Your application must be made through one of the agencies in Los Angeles County which is partnering with this program. See a list of participating LA-based agencies here: https://CAReliefGrant.com/partner/los-angeles/ Please note that receiving a grant from the LA Regional COVID Fund would not deem you ineligible for the California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant. This new grant program is being administered separate and apart from the LA Regional COVID Fund, so if you applied for that grant, please apply for this one too! The awards are being administered on behalf of the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) at the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz)Development by Lendistry - a minority-led, LA-based community development financial institution. MISSED THE DEADLINE? If you missed the March 31 deadline for this phase of the grant cycle, get details on when the next phase opens at https://CAReliefGrant.com. Please apply - and please share with your networks, neighbors, family, and friends!

Many thanks to LA CityView35 for having EmpowerLA General Manager Raquel Beltrán on #LAThisWeek to talk about the new Youth Council taking shape in the City of Los Angeles! It's named after Olivia Mitchell, who led the City's original Youth Advisory Council program under Mayor Tom Bradley. City Councilmembers Mark Ridley-Thomas and Paul Koretz both served on that Council. In February the two of them - together with Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez - introduced the motion to dir...ect the Dept of Neighborhood Empowerment to create a new Youth Council for Los Angeles. The item now goes to the City Council's Arts, Parks, Health, Education, and Neighborhoods Committee for consideration. Check out the video for a preview of what’s to come! We'll share more details as we have them, including info on how to get involved. You can also stay in the loop by signing up for updates for City Council File 21-0182: https://cityclerk.lacity.org/lacityclerkconnect/index.cfm
