As the director of the Center for Cognitive Diversity, my main focus for the past 3 years has been to build Trauma Informed Schools that heal and empower. Disrupting white supremacy and promoting racial justice has been at the core of our work. We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and offer free monthly guest lecture series for our community. This month we are hosting Jazz Saxophonist and Oakland educator Oluyemi Thomas who will talk about the power of music to heal. Please join us. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/trauma-informed-guest-lecture-

Covid19: Supporting your child in times of stress and change Staying home is great parenting! When children lose control in their lives they naturally seek control, here are some ways to help: ... 1. Establish a routine that works for you and your family. 2. Offer choices and follow your child's lead sometimes 3. Nothing is normal so not being ok is ok. 4. Share news sparingly. 5. Would you like to become a certified Trauma Informed Specialist? The Center for Cognitive Diversity offers a 10 month certification program in collaboration with California State University East Bay. Our first cohort began in February 2018 and we have had educators from 10 states and 3 countries participate. Our next cohort begins February 15th and we would love to have educators join us! Space is limited to 18 people per cohort due to the collaborative nature of our progr...am. 100% of participants said they would recommend this program to others. We create learning environments that heal and empower. https://www.centerforcognitivediversity.com/

So thrilled there is a bill to address FASD introduced to the Senate! It is long overdue and badly needed. Please call your Senators and urge them to support it. FASD describes the range of lifelong physical, mental, and behavioral impairments that can occur in an individual prenatally exposed to alcohol. As reported in JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, FASD affects as many as 1 in 20 school-age children in the U.S., and, according to a 2019 analysis of... data in the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Mortality and Morbidity Weekly Report, 1 in 9 pregnancies are exposed to alcohol. FASD is an overlooked crisis affecting millions of children and adults, said National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS) President Tom Donaldson, this landmark bill will advance research, increase education, and most importantly provide access to critical services for individuals affected by FASD and offer them long overdue opportunities to succeed. Board Chair Kate Boyce stated, NOFAS and its Affiliates across the globe applaud Senate sponsors Murkowski and Klobuchar and urge prompt action in the Senate to move this key bill forward.

Becoming a school psychologist was the best career decision I have ever made. It is a meaningful and empowering career that is in high demand. If you are interested in becoming a school psychologist, CSUEB is a fantastic program. The instructors are inspiring and supportive, it is rigorous and well respected and it is affordable. They are now accepting applications for Fall 2020. Epsy Pps http://www.csueastbay.edu//schoo/prospective-students.html
