Co-founder Jose Estrada celebrating our 2019 scholarship recipients at Theodore Roosevelt High School Senior Awards Night. Go Rough Riders!!!
The EmBrase Foundation is pleased to congratulate the below 2019 Scholarship Recipient. Abnner Olivares Yale University... Abnner’s journey began when he was a young boy, living alone with his father in Boyle Heights. Growing up in a single-parent household, showed him the value there was in a college diploma. Especially, when bills piled up for a single parent working a minimum-wage job. It was difficult an insufficient to support a family of two. In those instances, Abnner told himself that he would work hard enough so that his family would never have to endure these circumstances again. It is then, that he began his journey to receiving a good education that would lead him to a pathway that broke the cycle of hardships. Abnner has kept his education a priority through his elementary and middle school years. He then found himself applying and receiving a scholarship to attend Cate School, a private boarding school in Carpinteria, California. This opportunity turned a dream into reality for a kid from Boyle Heights, to enter the realms of high education. Abnner is now a first-generation college student at a prominent ivy league school, Yale University. Here, he plans to continue challenging himself academically and to be a strong voice/advocate for Boyle Heights, his family, and everyone who has supported him on his journey. Thank you to the EmBrase Foundation for supporting my college education and for supporting me and my father in one of the most important moments of my life. For years, my dream and my goal to attend college have been supported endlessly by people like those at the EmBrase Foundation and I could not be more grateful to have people in my life who believe in my success. Please congratulate Abnner Olivares and wish him well on his educational endeavors and journey to becoming a strong aspiring leader.
