Just a reminder that we created an online marketplace and have added over 500 grocery items for curbside pickup! If there is something you want or need that we don’t carry, call or shoot us an email, we can probably source it. Online grocery orders are fulfilled on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. For anyone who’s been missing their bakery fix while we’ve been closed this past week, I have an exciting announcement... The Elk Store will now be carrying ...our salted caramel pecan brownies, delivered every Wednesday, starting this week. Come by and say hello to Sean and try one of their delicious sandwiches too, they’re open Wednesday through Monday 11 to 4, closed Tuesdays. They are takeout only right now, but the beach access trail is right across the street. A few other Elk gems that I love to tell everyone about are Queenie’s Roadhouse Cafe for fresh, delicious comfort food and Matson’s Merchantile for beautiful, affordable home goods and hardware. (They also carry a selection of our jams.)

We lost our friend Paul McCarthy today. Paul was a nut. He always stopped by the Elk Store to harass us. Like every single day. I used to throw his cigarettes at him as soon as he walked in the door. He called me the Queen of the Coast and always yelled Get to work!!! when he came through the door. He knew all the news on the coast and was the biggest high school sports supporter I’ve ever met in my life. He supported our store. He was hilarious and smart and inappropriate.... He was a big presence and a pain in the ass. A local legend. Our condolences go out to Paul’s son Shane, who was a great source of pride for his dad. May you find comfort in your memories. Both of us being from New England, we used to trade pictures of the food we were eating when we’d go home for visits, and the other person would generally respond with cursing, and expressions of jealousy, and threats of violence. We will miss you buddy.

Wear your mask! The reality is that there are tourists here from all over the state, our hospital is tiny and underfunded, testing in our county requires an hour and fifteen minute drive and a 10 day wait, and our community demographics skew towards retirees! We need to keep each other safe, and masks are effective. #maskupmendo
