Anti-Asian racism, hate speech and violent attacks on Asian Americans has increased in recent months but unfortunately, many of these incidents are not being reported. As part of our Stand for the Elimination of Racial-Discrimination we encourage the use of our online reporting system, which was developed out of the racist incidents that targeted our African American and Black youth. We encourage all our students and their families, as well as, our staff and teachers to help Stop AAPI Hate by reporting any incidents of hate they may experience or witness! Should you need help or resources we can provide, please contact us. One important news item to share with you is that on December 15, 202...0, the EGUSD Board of Education announced its intention to begin the process of provisionally appointing an interested candidate to fill Ms. Singh-Allen’s vacated seat for Trustee Area 4. Our Board is responsible for ensuring the District operates effectively and efficiently and trustees commit a significant amount of time, energy, effort and dedication to ensure that the District can appropriately serve our community. With your help to promote this unique opportunity, we anticipate that many excellent applicants will come forward. Join us as we wish EGUSD Board Member Chet Madison, Sr. a Happy Retirement! Mr. Madison reflected on his 20 years of service by saying: I never thought I would end my last year of office here on [a] Zoom meeting and dealing with a pandemic. There are times that I feel like I need to stay and get through this pandemic and help the Board, but on the other hand, I felt that we got the right people working hard. We have amazing staff, and collaboration must continue to take place. This isn’t the end. I hope we can get together. My love will always be with Elk Grove Unified School District. I’ll be around. http://blogs.egusd.net//elk-grove-unified-thanks-long-ter/

2021 is here and our district and school teams are ready and excited to keep student learning and support moving forward. Thank you to the many parents, students and staff who participated in our fall distance learning survey. The feedback helps to inform continuous improvement. The results from this survey will be available soon. Although current public health conditions remain fluid and very dynamic, district and school staff continue to work with public health and labor pa...rtners on how to reopen schools. We all want to bring students back to school safely. We understand the level of frustration felt by many and ask everyone to stay focused on learning, and to stay vigilant about hand washing, wearing face masks and keep social distancing, especially by avoiding social gatherings. Due to the current high positivity rate currently in the community, the paused all in-person only activities involving the following three programs and services effective Monday, December 14, 2020 has been extended through January 19, 2021. - 17 ASES (After School Education and Safety) on-site in-person day camps - All in-person secondary athletic and/or extracurricular in-person activities - All in-person assessments A ray of hope we are following are the recent public announcements that those who work in education will be in the county’s 1b group to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. This is very promising and positive news for all of our staff. Based on recent District data, the threat of COVID-19 impacts not only our teaching staff, but also all of the essential workers who are critical for the operation of our schools and District. Currently, we are reviewing the details of the reopening proposal the Governor proposed during the winter break. Today, Governor Newson introduced his proposed state budget for fiscal year 2021-2022 and district staff will pore over the details of the Governor’s budget to prepare our future budget presentations. In closing, please note that on December 15, 2020, the EGUSD Board of Education announced its intention to begin the process of provisionally appointing an interested candidate to fill Trustee Area 4 and interested candidates are invited to check their eligibility and complete the application process by visiting the District’s website. http://www.egusd.net/covid-19-community-let/january-8-2021/

Students at Franklin High School showed off their impressive musical talents and rallied to create a student-produced video of beautiful music. The Franklin Wind Ensemble worked to perfect their parts through virtual classes and at-home practice to master the piece of music featured in the video. The students then recorded all of their parts and produced an impressive end result, a virtual concert experience for friends, family, and teachers to enjoy! https://blogs.egusd.net//franklin-high-school-wind-ensemb/

Based on the continued rise in COVID-19 cases in our communities and in anticipation of the issuance of a Stay Home Order for the Greater Sacramento Region in the next several days, we are making the following changes to help mitigate further COVID-19 transmission: All District buildings will be closed to walk up public access; Staff will keep working to ensure that distance learning and all other necessary functions continue uninterrupted; We ask the public to contact... school sites or other departments via phone or email for services or transactions and in-person assessments or meetings will be by appointment only; Existing on-site day camps will continue; Athletics and extra-curricular activities will return to the most restrictive Phase 1, allowing pods limited to no more than 10 students, outdoors only, with no passing of balls and conditioning only, with masks required, and all students and staff following social distancing protocols and any other guidelines as per the EGUSD protocols for Athletics and Extra Curricular Activities. We will continue to closely monitor local conditions and work with County and State level health officers to make any further adjustments when appropriate. Most importantly, during this time, we ask everyone to reach out and use our mental health resources as needed. They are listed below for families, students and staff. This is a difficult time for many and we are here for you. We will get through this together. http://www.egusd.net/covid-19-community-le/december-4-2020/
