FIRE WEATHER: stay alert, it ain't over yet. Two fires have blown up today. One down by Jamacha #parkfire (which is thankfully under control) and one in Carlsbad which seems to be getting worse (video from SDGE's Alert cameras).

FIRE ALERT: Fire in San Elijo Hills, just north of the Middle School. Chief Cox says that it is small (around 2 acres) and being hit with many resources. We should be prepared to evacuate given the uncertainty of the high winds and that it could blow our way any moment now.

It may be a little misty out there this morning, but don't be lulled into complacency. It will burn off soon. A Red Flag Warning has been extended through Wednesday evening. Please, all. Be alert and ready. Meanwhile, the #valleyfire is approaching 20,000 acres with 3% containment.

Thanks to Escondido Fire Department, Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District and San Marcos Fire for knocking this one down earlier this afternoon. Could have taken out a bunch of businesses and spread even further with the Red Flag Warning. Thanks for keeping us safe!

STAY ALERT: Wildfire in Alpine has a dangerous rate of spread and has reached 1000 acres in less than 2 hours. Make sure you’re prepared in case something happens in our neck of the woods.

RED FLAG WARNING THIS WEEKEND: This means stay vigilant this weekend, everyone. Hot, dry weather. Red flag warning. This means that the slightest spark can become an out-of-control wildfire. Make sure you have your evacuation plans ready and have a plan for your large animals. Consider hooking up your pickup truck to the horse trailers, store water in the trailer and extra hay. If you see anyone heading into the brush with dirt bikes or motorized vehicles, don't hesitate to call the Sheriff or 911.

For those interested in more background of how the the Sierra Club won its 8 year battle with the County (and how it is relevant to our own successful litigation), this pretty much breaks it down.

This is great news. Appeals court rules against the County's use of greenhouse gas offsets to essentially rubber-stamp bad general plan amendment projects. As most of you know, we prevailed in the lawsuits against the County and the developers on HGV South and Valiano. The courts ordered the County to rescind their approvals of both projects. The Board of Supervisors voted last month to appeal the ruling. However, this ruling in favor of the Sierra Club makes our case even stronger. In addition to suing on fire danger (which the judge agreed with us on), we also sued on the use of the GHG offsets. This latest ruling will only strengthens our case.
