Throughout FUHSD and specifically MVHS, the faculty has recently introduced a variety of changes, ranging from incorporating social emotional learning to posting monthly staff shoutouts to adding student equity lessons. Today’s FUHSD Parent & Community Webinar offered more hybrid instructional model updates. FUHSD has decided that students who have chosen the in-person option may choose to return for two days per week or four days per week. If students choose to return two days per week, they will not be allowed to pick the two days they will be in-person for the school will assign these based on what maximizes social distancing in classrooms. At MVHS, 19% of the total student body 376 ...students is returning in-person. Of these 376 students, 83 of them will be returning for two days per week and 293 will be returning for four days per week. In the past 10 years, MVHS enrollment has dropped by nearly 700 students. That’s 37% of the current student body. The causes are varying: rising housing prices, lower Californian birth rates and tech company movement, all of which contribute to fewer MVHS students. On March 11, Korean girl-group Blackpink’s main vocalist Rosé released her very first two-track mini album titled R outstripping the record of pre-order sales for a female K-pop soloist. Rosé’s debut as a solo artist marks the second individual project within the band’s four-person lineup, with member Jennie launching her chart-topping digital single SOLO in 2018. With SOLO sitting over 600 million YouTube views and 275 million Spotify streams as well as sweeping 2020’s Best Digital Song Bonsang (the second most prestigious Korean music show award), Rosé’s album was highly anticipated in the K-pop scene after a two-year postponement. On March 13, MVHS switched to a full-time distance learning model due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the lockdown, MVHS volunteer clubs like the Key club and Octagon experienced limitations. Yet in one year, the clubs have adapted - from organizing research programs to sending online cards, the following video explores the various ways volunteer clubs are contributing to the community during these unprecedented times.
