I consider Maria Furlano to be a Qi Gong mentor. Her podcasts are easy to understand, informative, and thoroughly entertaining. Her Qi Gong classes are excellent, with clarifying instructions. Highlighting episode one of her podcasts here. Follow along. It will be worth it. Elen

I am making the following changes to the way treatments will be offered, given the COVID-19 Virus recommendations. This is an attempt to be responsible and also sensitive to the needs of my clients, and our community at large. -The office will be open more limited hours, with more space between ... appointments so that the waiting room will not be used. - I will be offering immune enhancing treatments in a safe environment, wearing a mask and gloves during all in-office treatments; Immune-boosting aromatherapy and disinfectants will be used liberally. - Chair acupuncture in the office is being offered using ear, hand/arm, and foot/leg acupuncture or ear balls. [so you can remain dressed] - Qi Gong and Lung strengthening exercises will be demonstrated and practiced. - If you are sick, have a fever, runny nose, cough, or other flu like symptoms, contact your doctor to see if they can order a test for you. If you have been exposed to someone who is sick, please stay at home and self isolate. For those who are staying at home: - On line Video consults will be available with personalized treatment protocols of acupressure, ear, and hand points for your health/pain management needs. We can work together to make this easier and find creative ways to still get healthcare needs met during this trying situation. Peace Elen

Common General Protocols for Cold and Flu season These are things I do and recommend to my patients, both for prevention and for illness. However, washing hands, social distancing, and common sense cannot be overstated. ... Oscillococcinum (Homeopathic remedy) You can take it either once a week to have a preventative or prophylactic effect like a vaccine if you’re trying to not get a cold or the flu. But should you start to get cold or flu symptoms, it tends to work really well at the very first sign. What I tell my patients to do is go out in the early fall and buy this season’s Oscillococcinum. Don’t use the one from last year. They’re made every year based upon what the flu strain is that year, almost like the flu vaccine. Nasal irrigation and steam inhalation both help clear congestion and keep things moving and moist. I use distilled or cooled boiled water and Neil Med nasal rinse ( sterile saline and baking soda mix). Make sure the water is warm not cold. And do it at night right after dinner to clean out any viruses, bacteria, dust, or pollution that may have accumulated in your nose during the day. Avoid doing it right before bed - keeps the fluid from draining into your ears. I also use Steam inhalation with either Apple cider vinegar, or Thyme. Boil a pot of water, add either ACV or Thyme, remove from stove. Inhale alternating through nose and mouth. Gargling with warm salt water if you’re having throat symptoms, or post nasal drip. Until recently, gargling with salt water was even part of Japan’s national flu-prevention protocol. Drinking tea or warm lemon water mixed with honey is a way to soothe a sore throat But honey may be an effective cough suppressant, too, writes Dr. James Steckelberg on the Mayo Clinic’s website. A consultant in the clinic’s Division of Infectious Diseases and a professor of medicine at the Mayo Medical School, he cites a study where children with upper respiratory tract infections were given up to two teaspoons of honey at bedtime. The result: honey appeared to be as effective as typical over-the-counter doses of a common cough suppressant ingredient called dextromethorphan.

A couple of other suggestions to protect yourself and others: Daily gargle with salt water to protect the throat Wash your hands, face, and brush your teeth when you get home from being outside. (From work, food shopping, etc)... These are things I’m doing.

In response to the COVID-19 virus pandemic I am currently staying open. I am treating wearing a mask and using disinfectants as well as aromatherapy in the office. This will continue unless there is a lockdown imposed. In the meantime, here are some recommendations from Natural Terrain for boosting your immune system: Do your best not to live in fear or anxiety about the situation. Yes, it is a serious matter that requires our attention. However, it is important to note... that when we get trapped in a fear response our immune systems shut down in favor of survival mechanisms, which actually further heighten our anxiety! Be wise and discerning about your lifestyle practices and choices, and trust you are doing what you can to keep yourself and your family safe. Fresh air is vital to healthy immunity - make a point of getting outside, daily. Even as little as 10 to 15 minutes three times throughout the day will benefit you. Rest! Get plenty of sleep and rest. Take some time off, perhaps use this time for a personal at-home retreat where you just enjoy some time spent away from work, extra-curricular activities and the hustle and bustle of life. Walks in nature, healthy dinners together with your family, board games, curling up with a good book and limiting your social contact are all enriching ways to protect yourself from community transmission. Increase your consumption of anti-oxidant and nutrient-dense infection-fighting foods like: organic blueberries, raspberries, spinach, sprouts, garlic, onions, ginger, parsley, cilantro, spirulina, celery juice, bone broth and fermented foods and beverages. Drink lots of water. Drinking good quality water and herbal teas, staying hydrated, is one of the best things you can do to flush out toxins from your body and help support the immune system. Keep your immune system strong by reducing your sugar intake and eating a balanced diet. Avoid eating processed sugars. Sugar weakens the immune system and makes it less able to deal with viruses and bacteria. Be sure to read food labels carefully and to limit the amount of sugar you eat. Use common sense.

I’m also using this in my office. Aromatherapy based on the Thieves recipe. Strong but good. These postings provide more information which is a good antidote for anxiety. Peace Elen

Can’t find hand sanitizer? An associate of mine recommended this site. It’s the World Health Organization’s recipe for hand sanitizer. Easy version is: 1 cup alcohol (probably 90%) 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin ... Add distilled or boiled cold water to make 1 1/3 cup If you want, you can add essential oils. Apply in spray bottle. Caveat: hand sanitizer does not replace hand washing; the best practice- for at least 20 seconds.
