Friday, March 14, 9:00AM-11:30AM. El Manto. American River Parkway This walk will be along the American River, passing San Juan Rapids and looping back through an old mining dredge area. There is little shade on this walk and about 1/3 is on a cobble trail. For more information email John Schmidt or cell phone (Friday morning only after 6AM) at 916-500-8456. Bring water, hat, snack, layered clothing and sun protection. A walking stick might be useful.... Meet at the El Manto picnic area parking lot marked with an A teardrop on the map or use the directions below. Directions to El Manto from downtown: - Drive east on Highway 50 to Sunrise Blvd exit #18. - North on Sunrise Blvd. - Left on Coloma Rd. - Right onto El Manto Dr. (4th traffic light west of Sunrise). - Continue on El Manto Dr. entering the parkway in 4 blocks. - Even if no one is working at the Entrance Kiosk, be sure to self-register your vehicle ($5) unless you have an annual Parks Passport. - Turn right into the first parking past the entrance kiosk.

(UPDATE) Friday, February 7, 9:00AM-11:30AM. William Pond Recreation Area Join There should be signs of spring approaching with the recent rain. We’ll walk along the river and make a loop around the pond. The highlight will be the active heron/egret rookery near the pond so bring binoculars. William Pond Recreation Area is one of the most well established and popular parks along the river.... Directions from downtown Sacramento - Take Highway 50 East to Watt Ave, exit #11 - Watt Ave North - Right on Fair Oaks Blvd - Right on Arden Way - At the end of Arden Way you’ll enter the American River Parkway at William Pond - Even if no one is working at the Entrance Kiosk, be sure to self-register your vehicle ($5) unless you have an annual Parks Passport. - Park in the first set of parking spaces available past the entrance kiosk. We’ll meet you there. Even if no one is working at the Entrance Kiosk, be sure to self-register your vehicle ($5). Or use your Annual Parks Passport.
