School Board President Michael Minnix and Principal Joan Hanson present the new school sign for Booker T. Washington Elementary School. Booker T. Washington Elementary School holds historical significance in our District and this new sign featuring the likeness of Mr. Washington shows a renewed commitment that our students will understand how historical figures have impacted their daily lives.
Over the weekend, the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 18 (San Diego and Imperial County) celebrated its 18th Annual "Honoring Our Own" virtual event. Our very own Janice Lau, Senior Director of Special Education and Student Support Services, was recognized as the Administrator of the Year for Special Education. Join us in congratulating Mrs. Lau for her many years of service and her ongoing dedication to the students and families of El Centro.
Message from Superintendent LeDoux The Imperial County Department of Public Health recently announced that they will be accepting waiver applications that, if approved, would allow some elementary schools in Imperial County to reopen under certain conditions. With the Imperial County positivity rate currently at over 9% and the number of cases increasing once again, (as of October 2nd), the El Centro Elementary School District has no plans to apply for a waiver at this time.... We will continue to provide educational services via distance learning until it is deemed safe for the school sites to reopen. Should the district, in the future, believe it is appropriate to apply for such a waiver, we will only do so after receiving public input, from both our community and our employees. Safety for all concerned is, and will continue to be, our top priority. Thank you.
