CW/TW: Anti-Asian violence, racism, white supremacy, misogyny. Dear Familia and Comunidad: El Centro Chicano y Latino condemns, in the strongest possible terms, anti-Asian racism and hate. Stereotypes, bigotry, racism, sexism, misogyny, and violence against Asians and Asian Americans is nothing new. Yet, we have been saddened and outraged to watch the sharp increase in attacks on Asians and Asian Americans over the past few years in California and throughout the US, includin...g yesterday's heinous shooting in Atlanta, and repeatedly here on our Stanford campus. https://studentaffairs.stanford.edu//hateful-attacks-our-a We publicly commit ourselves and our Center towards working to eradicate the forms of white supremacy that leads to anti-Asian bigotry and hatred wherever it lives, and that includes within our own communities in the US and throughout Latin America. We realize that some perpetrators of anti-Asian violence in the US have also identified as Latinas/os/xs. We also recognize that anti-Asian hatred also directly impacts Latinos/as/xs of Asian descent. Reporting incidents of anti-Asian racism is important, so if you hear or see an incident of anti-Asian hatred, you should report it. If this happens on campus, it should be reported here: https://deanofstudents.stanford.edu/acts-intolerance-protoc. If it happens elsewhere, you should report the incident here: https://stopaapihate.org. We stand in solidarity with Asian and Asian American communities, and especially with support and love for our friends and familia at the Asian American Activities Center (A3C), who have compiled a list of community resources here. For those impacted, we hope you are able to prioritize your well-being today and practice self-care. We invite you to reach out to El Centro staff should you need anything. STOP THE HATE. In Solidarity, Community, and Love, Elvira, Margaret, Jacob and El Centro Staff

We first met Andrea Coto when she was an undergraduate and ventured into El Centro while doing a summer research program at Stanford. Today, Andrea became a Ph.D. student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, where she will also earn her M.S. degree at the end of this quarter. Way to go, Andrea! We are so proud of you!
