Our conference on re-imagining justice in the age of mass incarceration is fast approaching - just two weeks away. Glad to announce the addition of Tim Robbins ...and Mike Ferrell to the already powerful line-up of great speakers including Fr. Greg Boyle and Sr. Helen Prejean. We welcome any and all who would like to lend a helping hand with the many moving parts of the national conference. Let us know if you can help in any way. We have a job for you!
PROGRAM GROUP ON GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP EPISCOPAL DIOCESE OF LOS ANGELES LUNCH WORKSHOP SERIES 2018... THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 12:00 P.M. The "White-Savior" Critique: Whither Episcopal Mission? This workshop will engage the issues posed by Nigerian-American writer Neju Cole in his often-cited 2012 The Atlantic piece "The White Savior Industrial Complex." In the article, Cole "takes aim at the long history of Americans using Africa as 'a backdrop for white fantasies of conquest and heroism.' In their zeal to 'make a difference,' Cole argues, the members of the White-Savior Industrial Complex, which include TED talkers and development economists, journalists and international charities, have tended to seize on dramatic measures that attract tons of media attention and donor funds but don't actually help Africans." - The New Yorker, January 22, 2018. Prior to the workshop, attendees are encouraged to read Cole's article, available at: https://www. theatlantic.com /international /archive/2012/03/ the-white-savior-industrial-complex/254843/. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited and pre-registration required. To register, please e-mail Troy Elder, Bishop's Legate for Global Partnership, with your name and parish or other affiliation, at [email protected], no later than March 6. Prior to the workshop, attendees are encouraged to read Cole’s article, available at: https://www. theatlantic.com /international /archive/2012/03/ the-white-savior-industrial-complex/254843/. Future workshop topics will include "Fostering Agency (and Accountability) With Overseas Mission Partners," set for June, and "God Loves Uganda: Gender Ideology in Episcopal/Anglican Mission?," planned for September. For updated information about the series, please visit the Program Group on Global Partnership Facebook page at (https://www.facebook.com/EDLAPGGP/).

So grateful to the Program Group on Global Partnership, our Diocesan hosts, to our filmmaker and speaker, Leila Sansour, and to the many attendees at this moving and edifying film screening. The conversation that followed illuminated the myriad complexities of this Little Town of Bethlehem. Particular thanks to Bishop John H. Taylor, Canon Kathy O'Connor, Rev. Patricia O'Reilly, Robert A. Bland, Rev. Betsy Hooper, Rev. Thomas Ni, and the many, many others whose support led to its success. If you would like further information about hosting a screening for your parish or other group, please email Troy Elder at [email protected].
Before heading out to dinner on the Friday of convention, please join us for an hour of film, conversation, and activism related to the plight of Palestinians living in Bethlehem. Further details at event link on this page. The Program Group is looking very much forward to hosting this special event!
Looking forward to this special screening.
Ring in Advent with some fellow Episcopalians at this popular concert. Its theme, refugees, is particularly appropriate as we (re)consider the travails of the Holy Family.
A note from Father Irnel this morning: Dear Mother Patricia , Madame Serena and Maître Troy, I greet you in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus-Christ. ... Flocks in Mission Sainte Croix have a special thought of you and the people in California, in our service this morning: We prayed for People in California and those who suffer from this disaster. We watched TV this week and we see how since five days fire destroys forest, what people own and life. We are very sad and express our solidarity to you in this difficult moment. We hope you are safe and well. May God protect you. Your brother in Christ: Father Irnel Duveaux See more
