He also served in the US military for 20 years. Wong’s parents died when he was 12 & he came to the US when he was 18. While in Chicago, he says someone beat him up for being Asian, even putting him in the hospital. As recently as while campaigning, Wong says people would tell him he didn't look American enough. It's something he's been told his entire time here...his loyalty to this country even questioned. During the meeting, Wong said he won’t tolerate discrimination anymore. I have put up with a lot of (expletive) in silence... too afraid to speak out, fearing more abuse and discrimination. Wong ended his thoughts saying: Prejudice is hate and that hate can be changed.
