The importance of movement for brain development, memory, and learning. The brain develops through movement, and it doesn’t stop developing as long as we keep moving! At Eckstein Learning Solutions we work with adults and children with processing challenges, attention and learning differences, as well as brain dysfunction and more using cognitive skills training, brain hemisphere integration and movement therapy.... Movement is an essential part of our programs. We integrate movement into all our programs based on some well-researched factors, like neurological and behavioral effects of integrating auditory, visual and vestibular senses. Eckstein Learning Solutions provides simultaneous multisensory input to help develop new and reinforce existing pathways governing organization of the body and brain function. A study published in Pediatrics suggests that a daily movement break of 15 minutes or more during the school day may play a role in improving learning, social development, and health in elementary school children. A Survey of 500 elementary school teachers found that every teacher 100 percent said that recess is essential for young students’ mental and physical development. More on the relationship between movement and BDNF brain-derived neurotrophic factor: This article goes into further detail on how and why movement and, in turn, BDNF improves brain function.

~ VISUAL PROCESSING TRAINING ~ The visual system has long been ignored or even ridiculed as a source for improving children’s reading ability. In fact, poor readers can tremendously increase their reading speed and proficiency with select visual activities. This is significant because, when children find out that they are faster at reading, they realize that reading is not as hard and menial as they thought it would be, and they choose to read more on their own. Once they are... reading more on their own, they are on their way to being better readers. And because they often equate reading speed with intelligence, their self-esteem improves. Over the last four decades, many approaches to helping reading-disabled children have emerged. Despite all of these approaches, most children who benefit from this training have similar symptoms: -Slow reading -Excessive reversals of letters and words -Sloppy or disorganized printing -Making mistakes copying from the board or text -Losing their place or skipping words during reading Reading is more complicated than most people think. It is not as easy as seeing a word and then finding that word stored in the brain. And learning to read is much more than just learning phonics. Many perceptual and neurological processes are involved with reading. Our training provides students with the tools to help them become more proficient and faster readers. It will improve the following skills: -Reading speed - Eye-tracking -Focused attention -Visual Scanning -Spatial attention All activities are based on scientific research.

How Neurological Reorganization can help with Learning Challenges N is a scientifically proven method that utilizes specific physical movements in order to overcome behavioral, emotional and learning challenges. N is an amazingly simple, non-invasive approach to well-being that has been validated through state of the art Neural Imaging. N connects the dots between a child’s behavioral, emotional, and learning challenges, and the neurological process that actually controls ...these functions. The initial phase of N is to identify the root cause of the behavioral, emotional or learning challenges by witnessing specific movements that provide a proven, consistent neurological response. Then, the missing stages of neurological development are reignited through movements, reflex, and sensory experiences in order to finish the brain’s development, which addresses the behavioral, emotional and learning challenges that have been uncovered. Our 8-Week Brainworx Integration Program is designed to help re-organize the brain so your child is able to be calm, focus, and think rationally.

How is Eckstein Learning Solutions different from other programs? Our program is based on the fact that we can change our brain we can essentially re-wire it through specific and repeated stimulation, a concept known as neuroplasticity. As in building strength and endurance with physical exercise, we are able to build neurological pathways and synaptic activity at any. How does it work?... We provide simultaneous multisensory input to help develop new and reinforce existing pathways governing organization of the body and brain function. Auditory input to the brain and sensory input to the body are combined with customized movement activities, providing additional sensory and motor input for body organization. Additional cognitive activities are added to challenge the brain to process multiple pieces of simultaneous information, which is reflective of the demands required of the brain in our day-to-day world. With appropriate stimulation, the brain’s ability to successfully process and retain information leads to better academic outcomes. In addition, there is an increased ability to control impulses, self-regulate behavior and engage appropriately with others. Kids, teens, and adults see usually improve in the areas reading, comprehension, concentration, memory, and performance at work. Most report less stress and anxiety and a happier disposition. Call us to schedule a learning skills evaluation to find out what keeps your child from learning with ease and joy at school.

RED FLAG PHRASES FOR PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES Sometimes it’s hard for parents (and even teachers!) to determine if certain struggles or behaviors are just a normal part of the learning process or an indicator of a deeper issue. Cognitive skills are the underlying mental tools and include skills like logic & reasoning, attention, memory,...Continue reading

Why are strong cognitive skills so important for learning success? Cognitive skills are the core skills your brain uses to think, read, learn, remember, reason, and pay attention. Working together, they take incoming information and move it into the bank of knowledge you use every day at school, at work, and in life. It is important to understand that these skills do not work independently. The strength or weakness of one skill affects the effectiveness of other skills. For e...xample, reading comprehension is dependent on many skills, such as, the ability to create mental pictures and images, attend to what is read, and the fluidity of reading (which itself is dependent upon the auditory processing system). Each of your cognitive skills plays an important part in processing new information. That means if even one of these skills is weak, no matter what kind of information is coming your way, grasping, retaining, or using that information is impacted. In fact, most learning struggles are caused by one or more weak cognitive skills. Strong cognitive skills help us learn easier, think faster and perform better.
