ECC would like to take the time to appreciate all the office managers out there! We outlined a brief list of traits that we found made an effective office manager from our experiences. Optimism: With constant employee and customer interaction it is crucial to have someone optimistic to influence the office positively. It is also much easier to work with someone optimistic! Initiative: Anticipation of what is needed and being one step ahead is critical for success. Office man...agers are constantly bombarded with requests and tasks, so completing tasks before they are even needed helps spread the workload. Sometimes obtaining a little help in these anticipated tasks will go a long way. Interest in company’s well-being: Coming from a perspective of what is best for the company will help make choices simpler for the office manager and for those trying to assist the company. This will also identify areas of the office that could use improvement where they were not previously apparent. It is always noticeable when the OM wants to get it done right, over just getting it done. Communication: Being the first point of contact for questions, policies, and decisions makes communication a must. Keeping everyone updated and being able to explain necessary changes are critical for trust in employees, customers, and outside vendors.
