Some days, Robert Munsch books got us through a day in the Kindergarten. I even had records (remember those) with him telling the stories. The kids loved his voice and related to his silly stories. My personal favorite was "The Paper Bag Princess" about an independent princess who slays the dragon and disparages the pompous prince. I never knew the story behind "I Will Love You Forever."https://www.huffpost.com//the-heartbreaking-story-behind-i

One of our greatest joys is the people we meet through the book project. I was recently contacted by Jeffrey Rosen who offered to buy us books since he buys and sells on EBay. Ir wasn't until I noticed his email address that I realized he is a well known composer. We exchanged a few emails and a beautiful box full of multi-cultural books has already arrived. We can't wait to start sharing them with our clients. https://www.newmusicusa.org/profile/roden/

It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close this month. The new COVID restrictions mandate non-essential businesses must close. So, no matter how essential you may think we are, we have decided to follow their advice. Hope to see you in January.

We have a plan to open: Thursday afternoons from 3 to 4:30 November 5th, 12th & 19th. However, we will close the doors when it gets dark.... You do need to wear a mask and bring an index card or piece of paper that includes the following information. FIRST AND LAST NAME EMAIL (PERSONAL PREFERRED) SCHOOL OR WORK SITE CITY Please print neatly since we need to enter all that data when you are not available to help us read it. In the interest of safety, we will not be able to provide pens or paper. Think of the card as your ticket to get a bag of 50+ books that we have presorted by grade level. We cannot allow anyone except volunteers to enter the building Please make sure to social distance and follow our chalk lines on the sidewalk.

A giant thank you to Jonathon. In the midst of a pandemic, he decided to build book stands for our "Hot Pick" books. We are just blown away by the quality and beauty of these stands. He and his fellow scouts also collected, sorted, counted and delivered 4642 books. He really earned his Eagle.

Sorry, the books are all gone WOW! The response was overwhelming. Over 100 of you sent me an email or a message. I was not expecting such a fast and massive response. I apologize if I didn't get back to you. I answered the first 20 messages and then just gave up. There were only 12 cases of books. In the interest of safety, I decided not to open the cases and let people rifle through them. So, the first 12 people who showed up, each got one case. ... Obviously, there is no way we can run the book project in a fair and equitable way from my walkway. The need is so immense and we really want to help all of you. Hopefully that will be soon. Please stay safe. You know we will reopen as soon as it is safe for all of us.

The East Bay Children's Books Project is closed. We are not happy about this. We love giving away books. But, these are scary times and our health and safety must take priority. As we all know, the situation with COVID-19 is extremely dynamic and we will continue to review the facts and science and make the proactive decisions necessary to protect our volunteers, clients and the greater community. ... We realize that books can be a great comfort right now, especially since schools and libraries are closed. We cannot predict the future, only hope that we will come through this with a stronger and more just society. We will reopen as soon as we think it is safe for everyone.

We are closed this week (Tuesday,3/10 & Thursday, 3/12) After careful consideration, we decided to err on the side of caution. The corona virus is moving fast and news gets updated frequently. ... So, we decided to be pro-active and close before anyone gets sick. We hope to be able to open again very soon. I hope this does not inconvenience anyone. We will reopen as soon as we think it is safe for everyone. Thanks for your understanding.
