I’ve seen this far too many times to count. I’ve always believe that teaching/training STARTS and ENDS with parents because your child spends the most time with you. Coaches, trainers, teachers and the like are the in betweeners. We only have so much influence. So, imagine the person your child spends the most time with and looks up to, sees your rollercoaster of emotions when they play, train or practice. What do you think is going to happen? The INEVITABLE: poor performance... and likely quitting the sport they once loved when they are old enough to make decisions about their career because their parent can’t control their emotions. I honestly and sincerely believe there needs to be a national course on parenting athletes. But, what parent would go? How dare you tell me how to raise my child!... How dare you criticize my parenting! ... I pay for EVERYTHING they have, want, and need!...As long as they live in my house, it’s my way! ...But we criticize and ridicule coaches, trainers, and teachers for not doing what you believe is right??!! How does that work??? #hypocrisy I challenge ALL PARENTS to see what YOUR CHILD prefer and do that. Not what you think they want/need. AND WATCH THEM BLOSSOM!
