Take time to breathe and grieve. Give yourself space to express your emotions. Find solace in the stories and experiences of Asian American authors. As we have learned from history, violence against Asian Americans is not new. We cannot address the violence done to our communities without addressing the intersections of race, class, gender, and sex. Let us all work together to create safer and braver spaces for our fellow Asian American women and allies. We compiled this boo...klist as a guide to anti-Asian Racism. Read to learn about Asian American history. Read to celebrate the resilience and vibrancy of the Asian American experience. Read to #StandupForAAPI See more

From Oakland to Atlanta: On Our Minds, In our Hearts-- Yesterday marked one week since the shootings in Atlanta. Community gathered last night in Oakland again... to honor and mourn the lives lost. It has been a heavy week with more tragedy and violence in our communities. The fierceness and vulnerability of the women who spoke and held the space was so moving and powerful. The Korean drumming circle kept the heartbeat going. It was a space to grieve, to release, to heal, to feel more whole. Uplifting solidarity and dignity for our Asian communities, especially sex workers, women, trans and non-binary folks, elders, and all BIPOC communities that experience the horrors of white supremacy and a system that tries to pit us against one another. Feeling both so sad and yet uplifted yesterday. Grateful to have the opportunity to document these events. Thanks to Oakland Rising, Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN) and all who helped organize. Who is Isabel Rosario Cooper? Isabel Rosario Cooper was the Filipina vaudeville and film actress, who was the mistress of General Douglas MacArthur. But she was much more than the tragic heroine western media paints. Don't miss the conversation between Vernadette Vicuña Gonzalez and Elaine H. Kim, in which they will explore the complexities of Isabel Rosario Cooper. ... RSVP here: vernadettebooktalk.eventbrite.com
