The COVID-19 pandemic is shining a spotlight on the cruelty of the U.S. healthcare system a system designed to maximize profit, not patients’ well-being. Millions of working-class people have lost their jobs and their health insurance in the pandemic-driven recession. Meanwhile, in California alone, 165 billionaires have seen their wealth increase by $175,000,000,000 since March 2020. It’s time to tell Assemblymember Tim Grayson we need California Medicare for All and pass AB 1400 - CalCare.

Join us to knock on doors next weekend in Concord for California Medicare for All! We are demanding California State Assemblymember Tim Grayson supports Assembly Bill 1400, the California Guaranteed Health Care for All Act, also known as CalCare. We also demand that Assemblymember Grayson call on Governor Gavin Newsom to lead on California Medicare for All and stop taking campaign contributions from the healthcare industry. We will be talking with his constituents about the urgent need for California Medicare for All and moving them directly into action by calling Tim Grayson’s office at the door.

No matter who you are or where you come from, we all deserve safe, healthy homes and neighborhoods where we can raise our kids and grow our roots. We deserve dignified work that contributes to the well-being of our communities and pays family-supporting wages. Our young people, and all future generations, deserve clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and a healthy and safe planet. That is why California needs a Green New Deal. A #GreenNewDealCA is not just possible, it ...is necessary to protect our communities from escalating climate catastrophes, wildfires, pollution, and exploitation. We have to take bold action now to address these crises and build the new economy our communities need in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, we have an opportunity to make transformative changes that protect Californians from pollution, create good jobs and invest in communities on the frontlines of the struggle against climate change. We can: Expand health care. #AB1400 Build affordable housing. #AB387 Fund community resilience. #AB1087 Advance equity. #SB17 Ban fracking. #SB467 Passing these five bills will be a powerful first step toward achieving a Green New Deal in California. But to pass legislation bold enough to meet this moment, we need thousands of Californians to take action. Will you join us in calling on your legislator to publicly support the #GreenNewDealCA priorities in 2021? Take action now: https://actionnetwork.org//tell-your-representatives-calif

¡Peep se puede! Marshmallow peeps are made by union workers. When they went on strike in 2016 they made this diorama together and chanted "No justice, no Peeps" on the picket line

On Sept. 9, members of the public flooded a meeting of the AC Transit Board of Directors to demand free masks and sanitizer for every rider. Five days later, the Board agreed. This is a victory for bus operators and the frontline workers that depend on mass transit and we owe it to months of pressure and organizing by transit workers and riders.

Right-wing billionaires are funding pro-charter candidates to take over Oakland schools in the upcoming election. Their agenda is scary. But East Bay DSA is backing two pro-public school fighters, Mike Hutchinson for Oakland School Board District 5, and Ben "Coach" Tapscott for District 7, who are fighting to keep schools democratic and responsive to families, not billionaires. Vote for Mike and Coach, vote YES on Prop 15, and join DSA to keep fighting for public education and democracy after Nov 4th!

"The District 3 election is about more than just whether an economic and housing justice activist makes it to public office. It’s also about building power for residents of West Oakland, long an environmental dumping ground. And it could determine whether Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf has a supportive majority on the council which would impact everything from how the city bargains with unions, to what it does about its police department, and how this booming town with a long and radical Black history responds to rapid gentrification." Accidentally toss your ballot? Was it sent to your old address? If you live in Alameda County, go to the Registrar of Voters' office in the courthouse at 1225 Fallon St in Downtown Oakland & they can print you a new one on the spot

Today Chileans voted to replace their constitution. The current constitution was written by the Pinochet dictatorship to suppress the popular reforms of the elected socialist government they'd overthrown, and to limit democracy even after the dictatorship ended. Today's vote happened because mass demonstrations last year demanded it. Both polls and early vote tallies indicate massive approval for a new constitution, with further support for it to be written by new delegates ...elected to a special convention instead of existing politicians. Protests began over a proposed hike in metro fees and expanded to a broad opposition to austerity. They continued despite massive police violence--especially police shooting out protestors eyes. But cops can't stop a nationwide mass uprising. #ChileDespertó
