Reading to your child before they can even talk helps to lay a strong foundation for their social skills. By hearing sounds and seeing pictures, they will begin to try to copy those sounds and associate it with the pictures they see. So as your child begins to babble, jabber and talk, give them the book and encourage them to read to their stuffed friends, pets and you, of course! As a little kid, some of my favorite memories were when life would get stressful, my mother would break out the coloring books. While most people might think of coloring as a independent activity, being able to relax and color together was some of the strongest bonding experiences I had. In addition to all of the other benefits like working motor skills and expressing creativity, it gave an opportunity to just do something stress relieving, let our guards down, and just talk.... It's for this reason coloring absolutely goes along with our monthly theme of socialization.
